Best hunting arrow and broadheads?
«
on:
September 06, 2007, 01:39:52 PM »
Currently I am shooting Beman Hunter 400 carbon arrows with 125 grain interlock broadheads. I have never killed an animal with this setup yet but the archery shop guy said it was good. Im just curious what other bowhunters believe is the best carbon arrow and broadhead setup available? I heard the new Axis carbon arrows are good...as long as the Montec G5 broadheads?

I have no idea which is the best, but I like the small diameter of the easton axis they penetrate my block target deeper than any other arrow shot at it. Wac Em's, Shuttle T-locks, Slicktricks and Montecs to name a few, couldn't go wrong with any of these heads.

Goldtips with Montecs for the compound
Goldtips with Magnus Stingers for the Trad.
I'd really hate to be on the recieving end of any of them.

Heck I don't know, but since the invention of the bow and arrow began with a wooden stick, sinew string, wooden arrows and bone or chipped rock for broadheads...I don't think you can go too wrong. One more reason I went back to "traditional" and shoot Zwickey 125 gr. 2 blade eskimo's...just keep em sharp and stick em where it counts.
Good luck anyway.
Oh, and when I did shoot a compound, I always liked Thunderhead 125's. for what it's worth.

I use Carbon Force Radial Weave STL Hunter 300 and Pro 300 arrows and Modoc broadheads in 125gr. I am thinking about trying the Slick Tricks.

Gold Tip Pro Hunters with 100gr Wac 'EM. This is the first year using this combonation. I used to use Beman ICS hunter and Muzzys. With the new set up I defiantly shot tighter groups. However the old set worked just fine on elk.

I use easton axis with wraps and blazer, 100 grain slick trick magnums, 487 grains total. I just shot a deer on the 11th and it only went 35 yards and there was a huge blood trail.

Your Bemans are as good as they get and will perform as good or better than anything out there. Just a matter of personal choice.
Look at Slick Tricks broadheads.........you will love them in the way they fly and what they do when hitting game.

Read my thread in the Elk forum...."Montana Archery Success!" I just got back from Montana and killed a Whitetail buck and a 6x6 Bull Elk with the SAME EXACT ARROW! No joke, the Elk went 50 yds. and fell over, he was dead with in 10 minutes!
Beman 340's with 100gr. Slick Tricks. Not gonna get me to change that combo.

In my opinion the most enjoyable carbon based arrow material is Wood. I use 23/64 cedar spined at 80 - 85 #'s with 190 grain Grizzlies.
My 93 # Osage bow really spits them out and the 4 point elk only went 30 yards and was out for the count.
I think this is a fairly common setup and should be a good starting point.
