Bear/coyote issue
«
on:

I am new to hunting only couple years, learn a lot from everyone on here, mostly read no post. That being said
Went to bear hunting sport which I saw a bear at last year but couldn't get a shot on him. 45 min drive or so and 45 bike ride.
Get to my spot and and 2 coyotes post up eating berries.
Wait it out maybe 5 minutes see if they leave or move on but kept walking towards me. They haven't noticed me at all. I decided to shoot at them.
Real question is should I have waited hoping to not have to shoot at them? I am assuming I scared everything away in the area with the 2 shots ending my bear hunt.
You thoughts please..
Thanks

I would shoot them . If your area is anything like were I have been hunting the predators are taking over . Where we deer hunt there are 12 does right now and only 2 still have fawns , we came up on 5 cow elk and only one had a calf. I won't pass up a chance to take predators out , I can always go back to hunt bear .

I always shoot coyotes given the chance... I know studies were done and deer(i know they arnt bears) are not concerned by shots or other loud noises that are not near them. I know more than one person who has shot an animal with a partner and given it time to bleed out, only to have another show up for thier partner to shoot.

I have a spot I see bear from time to time that's a hell hole I won't go in. So one day I thought what will this bear do when I shoot way off to one side of him.
We'll he didn't even lift his head to see what was going on, he just kept feeding!
So I don't think it bothers some animals much when they hear gun fire.

A couple years ago, my brother shot at a bear, and missed. ( About 80 yards standing broadside
) We were sitting there for about 5 minutes, while I was giving him crap for missing, when a second bear walked into the same spot. He didn't miss that time.
I've watched deer, and bear while guys were target shooting near by. I don't think it bothers them as much as you would think.
