Tagged my first Mule Deer
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:34:23 PM »
Well it was a fantastic opening day. Started off in the blind on the edge of an apple orchard with my girl. After a few hours we head out to do some spot and stalk. From the top of the canyon we see 6 good shooters but they are in no hurry and no way we were getting to them there. So after a small meal we head up to an area that has had a lot of activity. Saw lots of animals but no shooters on public land. As we are heading back through the orchard I spot my deer. Just what I was looking for. A fat, yummy doe. She is about 60 yards out and laying under a pear tree. She doesn't look like she wants to leave so I slow walk up to 40 yards, get down on my knees and line up. Smack her hard in one lung and the spine. No tracking needed on this one. Blood was bright and full of bubbles. I walked up and put a second shot in an artery and she's done in minutes. Best meat I've ever had and we're going back to try and fill my girl's tag this weekend.

Appears he was hunting in a red delicious orchard, but apparently his doe was under a pear tree. :dunno: :chuckle:

Thanks everybody. We were in a private orchard by Chelan. Red, golden, gala & Fuji apples. First thing I've learned about mulies is those ears hear everything. :yike:
