8-2/9 Coho
« on: September 15, 2014, 04:13:59 PM »
So how do you guys think the run is doing this year?  According to the WDFW creel reports it doesn't look too bad to me from the Everett ramp.  On Saturday morning I was out with my son and he had one good one on just at first light that ended up getting off.  It was our first time really trying out my downrigger so there was some learning curve involved.  We did manage to catch a lot of eel grass or other stuff floating in the water.

So is the coho run doing better or worse than last year?  Opinions?

It's much worse than last year, or it's later, or I've forgotten how to catch them.  It's been slooooow fishing so far.

Way slower than last year. By this time last year it was easy limits. I think they are just really late. :dunno: We killed them in Port Angeles on Sunday. We got four limits in three hours!

I pounded them last weekend.

Went out Friday after 3pm to Shipwreck and caught 3 went out Sunday at noon while a zillion boats were coming back (likely the Seahawk game) caught three more with the kids. I had numerous hits.

Fish the bait, there are plenty of coho around.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Checking in on area 9. Any reports this week for some coho? Thinking about heading out Sunday, dropping a few pots, and dragging some gear.

Didn't get the boat out last weekend but picked up three from our bulkhead with buzz bombs.

I was out on Sunday and went 6 for 8. It was slow at first but really became consistent after the fog lifted and the sun began to show. A lot of boaters left early with no fish. Out of the last three weekends this weekend produced larger fish, last one of the day was close to 10 pounds.

Plans are on the books for Sunday morning. Figuring to fish Shipwreck, norht and south of there, and maybe out in the deep. Anyone drop pots along there? Also, if anyone is out today or Saturday and feels like posting an update I'd be interested in any info you wish to share. Tight lines.

Will be out sunday, hitting the dock around 5:30, will be north of shipwreck and hoping to be done by 11am... :IBCOOL:

I saw a guy pumping gas in his boat yesterday so I went up and talked to him. He had 4 nice silvers. He said he has been limiting by 11 everyday out by shipwreck.  He said about 60 or 70 down.

I will be trying on Saturday.  I'll post results.  I've yet to get one on my new downrigger so maybe tomorrow will be the day.

Edmonds has been very slow this year.

I've been doing pretty well around the oil docks. Some days are better than others, but limits most days. Today was great (two fish in first 24 minutes).

I slept in and had a nice breakfast so you can guess what our results were. :chuckle:  We fished around the shipwreck from around 11-4.  Prime time.   :chuckle:  But, I did not see many caught while I was out there.  We were out about 100'.

Boated 3 yesterday with one monster 13 inch king hooked and released, he was a fighter i tell ya, not sure how long he was hanging on  :chuckle:
8 keeper crab, soaked the pots for almost 6hrs, lots of crab that were soft or we would of had 3 limits..

I got a couple Monday morning and one Wednesday morning.  On either side of Edmonds. Certainly not great fishing either day, but a few around.

I'll be out tomorrow and probably Saturday.  Good tide changes the next couple days.

Tough fishing out there today, the wind was not fun in my little boat.  But stuck it out to get the MA9/10 trifecta, a blackmouth, a coho and limit of crab.  Sounds like I was pretty fortunate.  3 chinook and 3 coho for 16 boats at Shilshole as of 1pm.
