Hunting Indian Heaven for late buck
« on: September 23, 2014, 05:18:05 PM »
Anyone spend anytime in the Indian Heaven Wilderness for late buck?  I've always hunted late muzzle in 578, but when that went to special draw only, it kind of left me without a hunt.

A buddy and I are trying to put a plan together for the late hunt.

Anyone had any success?

Lower down...so...like the southern region?

Or lower elevation?

Snowed in by late buck there usually. Deer are dropping down to lower elevations. What few there are.

My group elk hunted the Wilderness for several years, we saw a couple of little 3 pts. a few forks and a few spikes, nothing of any size at all and never very many deer, however, one guy we spoke with was hunting it and took a shot at the largest black tail buck he had ever seen. He was hunting the south end I believe.
As stated I think the majority head to the lowlands prior to the late hunt starting.

There are some big ones in there but they are far and few between. The deer population in there is not very high to start with and in the late hunt as most have said the deer are already moved out.
