For my hunting buddy and I it was a bust.  (See my tread Nile busted by sheep.)  The elk simply were not back in there in the numbers my cam showed before the sheep moved in.  We saw a few singles but no groups.  Camped by the Old River Road bridge and mainly hunted offshoots of the 1709 line up to and including the 1791 line.  There weren't as many hunters/campers as I expected but didn't see or hear of anyting taken.  Talked to one guy who said he stuck a cow and lost it after it rained the one day.  Same guy(s) said they were hunting deer and we watched them push the woods where we were hunting hard 3x a day.   :bash:  This was after they watched me put my tree stand up.   :bash: :bash:  We moved up higher to get away from them to find they did the same thing when they walked right in front of my ground blind.   :bash: :bash:  :bash:  Had a 5x5 (could have been the same one) twice dead to rights (easy shot, 30 yards broadside) but no Any Bull tag.   Posted a pic of it on the "Go Away Bull" thread.  Heard from a number of people the elk were thick in the walk-in/handicap drive-in road just up from the 1709 bridge.  Didn't see anything come out of there though.  I WILL be back in the Nile come (I think it's) November 26th for round 2.   :IBCOOL:

Our group will be there on the 4th for Muzzy season.

BTW: There was a distrubing thread on here last week about a Hunter's camp getting vandalized near where you camped. CRAZY  :bash:  :bash:  :bdid:

Take care,
Lee

Hi Lee ... I searched for the thread on vandals and couldn't find anything.  If it happened near the bridge I have a good idea what transpired but wouldn't put my "opinion" on a public post.  I had a business trip to DC on Monday, Sep 8th so on Sunday afternoon I packed the trailer/camp up and left.  I went back Friday afternoon for the closing weekend but just did a tent up higher off the 346 line.  Good luck out there with the fire stick.  My hunting buddy keep trying to talk me into getting a muzzy.   :dunno:

Rover, I know the area you camp.  Our camp (the one got destroyed) was quite a ways from you.

Copy.  I wanted to camp on the 1709 where there were 3 dummy camps but, just like when I'm out in the woods hunting, I don't like to step on other peoples toes ... that is to say crowd their camp even though there may have been enough room for me too there.  Just like the guys that busted the woods between the 1672 and the 1709 ... I simply moved a mile and a half away ... then they showed up there too.  So, I just smile and moved on to spot #3.  I knew the camps were there so didn't even bother pulling my trailer up the mountain when I saw there was a spot available by the river.  Not my first choice but I'm pretty easy going even though I like the bashing head emoticon.   :chuckle:  As I mentioned, "I'll be back...."

Darn it!!! See what you made me do?  Now I gotta apologize to washelkhunter because I hijacked his tread.

Nile???? No elk there.  Don't go.  Leave.  Leave NOW!!!

Same here.  When new hunters crossed where I hunt, I just move on too.  Or if they stop and ask me, I'll layout where I hunt and it's up to them to change their plan.  I don't mind sharing at all.  All I can say is that I have a better chance that they will chase the elks to me.   ;)

Oh yea, NO elks at all.  I saw 0 for the whole week!

Should still be plenty of elk to chase around the Nile for those that muzzy hunt. Saw lots of elk the first week. Know of a couple elk that were shot opening morning in one of the areas I was hunting.

 :yeah:
I think the muzzs have us figured out.  Yep....the elk are in there but they were holding tight until well after dark.  Hope the muzzys gets some rain to quiet the woods down and some cloud cover.  Sad to admit but I made a rookie mistake (twice for the shame of it all) and should have had one (twice for the shame of it all).  I was set up on a trail by Devil's Creek and heard a twig snap way behind me.  Rather than git my tired (censored) out of my chair I sat and listened.  Listened right up to the point the cow bolted 15 yards behind me.  Of course that's not counting the 5x5 I had the drop on ... twice.  You can find him if you go up the           line and when you get to the               line you go to the end of it and move back to the         until you reach the ravine that runs in a                     direction.  He comes out right by a          that you can't miss.
