My mathews drenalin, do I have a problem ?
« on: December 11, 2008, 07:56:20 AM »
I was at elk camp for late season and a bunch of us had new bows. I looked & held everyones bows and then looked mine over ( mine was the only mathews ). When I put an arrow on each bow & look down the string from behind arrow, the string, arrow, and sights all lined up on every bow. You can rotate them in that plane & the string stays straight with sights & arrow. My mathews drenalin ( set up at Rainier Arh shop in July) when I put an arrow on the rest and look from behind, the arrow is angled slightly (actually more that slight) towards the riser and my sight pins are 1/4 inch to the left of the arrow. It looks catty wompus now that I look at it. When I draw it I get twist in top wheel (a lot) and bow seems to straighten out with regards to string, arrow, sights. It also shoots straight, and flies a broadhead with sweet flight @ 50 yards and hits where I want. I also paper tuned it when I bought it but the service guy at Rainier ( not joe ) Changed everything on the bow there trying to paper tune. He adjusted strings, whisker, cables, loop, pretty much worked it over for an hour trying to paper tune ( looking at a cheat sheet as we went ). It did seem to paper tune. Does my new bow have a problem or am I being critical ? With an arrow on the whisker and looking down from top, it is way off center even with stabilizer. Need advice. Mike.

Sounds like there is Some thing wrong . I dont know alot about mathews except my buddy bought a brand new drenlin last year and it was such a POS that he ended up selling it for almost half price .  We couldnt get that thing to shoot accurate past 40 yards .  He sure loves his bowtech . I would take it to the Nock Point , that guy is a bow genius .  good luck

well yes you have a problem its a matthews!! lol I really dont like them, but seriously it sounds like youe center shot is way off, of course the bow can still group well, thats all with the sight, if something is wrong but consistently wrong you can still shoot ok if you adjust for it.. I have never paper tuned a bow of mine, personally I dont think its needed, some do, I dont, but I would have your center shot looked at first

I agree with rougheye, that you should go to the Nock Point. They are as good as they come in working on Matthews bows. However, if teh bow shoots good for you to 50 yards, and you are happy with that... If it works, don't fix it!

Definitely your center shot is off.  One way to check this is to shoot your 20 yard pin at 20 yards, then 30 yards then 40 yards and so on all the way out ot 60 or whatever your last pin is.  USE THE 20 PIN AT all yardages.  This will create a line on the target.  If the line is straight your good if it tails to the left or right you answered your problem.  Then just move your rest opposite of the tail.  I can guarantee you will have to move your rest to the left.  You never ever, ever, ever want your arrow towards the riser.  Let me know if this helps you out.

When your archery guy papertuned it was he shooting it or were you?  Has anyone else shot it besides you thru paper?  If not you might be torquing your bow one way or another.  My first bow was the matthews ultra and I had the same problem until one of the regulars at the archery shop seen me adjusting my bow and gave me help with it.  I too could shoot good out to 50 yards with the sight and rest looking off but he shot it thru paper and tuned it as well as sighted it in out to 60 yards and told me to shoot at 20 yards for a while before making any adjustments and over time I noticed a big difference, and the sight, rest and string were all in a line.  What draw weight, arrow spline

With the limited info provided, sounds like you are experiencing some idler lean, which will cause you to have to move your rest in to get it tuned. When at full draw, the idler should be inline with string, you will need a press to correct this. Since your bh`s are flying good, i wouldn`t mess with it until after hunting season.

Your center shot should be around 10/16th of an inch.  I agree dont touch it until your done hunting unless u have an hour or so to walk back tune as stated by kingsalmonkllr77.
