West Side Muzzle Loader Partner/Info
« on: September 18, 2014, 09:56:54 AM »
I hate to do it but I need to ask for some info.

My sob story begins and ends with "I thought I wasn't going to be able to hunt this year but now I can and the areas I am familiar with are not open to early muzzy". I live in Puyallup. I'm looking to hunt some where pretty close, Mossyrock, Winston maybe... Capitol forest scares me, I've had my truck broke into riding motorcycles down there...

So if someone has any info on access they'd like to share I'd greatly appreciate it. Also if anyone needs a huntin partner for early muzzy let me know...

There really aren't many good options. The two they you mentioned, Mossyrock and Winston, are not open for early muzzleloader. The closest for you would be 652 and 654 (Puyallup and Mashel.) I know much of that is private but I believe there's some state land in Mashel, and both units are open for either sex.

The only others that are reasonably close that I would recommend would be 501, 530, and 672. These units have very limited access now, due to Weyerhaeuser's land being closed unless you purchased an access permit, but there is some state land available, although my guess is any state land that holds elk will be extremely crowded.

Oh sorry, I was thinking elk for some reason! In that case there are lots of options.

Winston would be a good choice, but I would recommend buying the $150 access permit. That will give you a lot of area to hunt.

That's probably your best bet since you don't have any areas scouted out.

That would be killer! Is that Weyerhaeuser? If so I do not think you can, according to the access maps on their web site.
