I think that might be the biggest shiras I have ever seen killed.   Are you sure you aren't in the Yukon.   Congratulations on showing what this state can produce.

Still on cloud nine.......Here is how it unfolded.

I had to attend my daughter's first grade "play" on Thursday night but wanted to be able to hunt all day Friday so decided to leave that night.  Whacker1, whom I never met, was gracious enough to offer up a place to sleep in his wall tent whenever I rolled into the mountains.  He had seen a great moose and was willing to show me where to go.  So, I got into his camp around 11:30 or 12 that night and we told a few stories and hit the sack.  It was freaking cold.  Not sure how much we slept, but had to get up a 4am.  I had another spot I wanted to hit first thing in the morning so I told him I would meet back up on Saturday with him.  I can't tell you guys what a great guy he is and glad I got the chance to meet him.  I owe Neil!

Funny thing is, I called Coach on the way over and we talked for about 45 minutes BS'ing about hammering bulls this weekend.  Glad it worked out Buddy!  We did it.

I get to where I want to be right around daylight and spot 5-6 moose on a ridge above me at about 250 yards.  I start glassing and see it's three forky bulls, a 140 class bull and a cow.  Maybe she was ready for round 2?   :dunno:

At about that time I see a tank come over the ridge down to meet them.  He was a pig...laid out flat and I swear 60'.  No brainer.......I throw some shells in and jump out of the truck on my sticks.   As soon as I get out of the truck he does a quick 180 and barrels back over the ridge.  All I see is his *ss and paddles that were completely flat way, way outside of his ears.  A true giant.   I was going after this bull.

There was about 6' of snow so was pretty easy to get on his tracks.  I trailed him for 2-3 miles through all kinds of crap.  Finally he comes out on a road.  I call for backup, eat lunch and wait for two buddies.  We spend the rest of the day tracking this pig.

Finally dark approaches and we have to call it a day.  He was so big I wanted to pick it up again in the morning so first thing we all meet back up and start acting like hound dogs again.  We spent all morning going through timber, clear cuts, etc. only to lose him back into the same clear cut I initially saw him.  About a 5 mile loop through patches there is now way you could imagine a moose getting through.  I was totally bummed and exhausted and not sure what to do for the remainder of the day.

I was going to wait until evening and see if he showed back up.  But, Benhuntin called and he was out deer hunting and said he saw a decent bull pushing the 170' mark and close to 50'.  He was two hours away but what the hell.  I was tired and needed a change of pace.  So, I went to meet up with him.

TEASE!
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

I meet Ben and he shows me this little bowl and it's like a Moose Lodge.   I think we see 10-12 bulls in a pretty small area and get glimpses of the bull he spotted.  It was impossible to get a good look at him but it was definitely a potential shooter.

For no apparent reason he just jettisons on us and follows a finger down into the bottom.   It's about 2pm so I  decide I'm just going to walk down into the bottom where there was an old spur road that was completely full of moose tracks and sit there til dark in hopes of getting a better look at that bull.  Ben tells me he's going back deer hunting and will come back at dark to see how things went.

Off he goes and I get all packed and layered up.

Not five minutes later while I'm just locking up the truck he comes screaming down the road.   "Get in! get in!smoker bull up the road.  It has 13-14 points on his left side."  So, I jump in his rig and off we go.

Patience Boys!  All good things come to those who wait.    :tung:
