Thin ICE!! BE SAFE
«

Just been readin thru some post and so many are like myself and hopin beond hope that this cold weather will bring new birds in. Well I'm sure it will but
USE YOUR HEAD and becarefull around the ICE. It may look like it's plenty thick but you just never know where that thin spot will be.
AND PLEASE BE SUPPER CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE YOUR DOG WITH YOU THEY DON"T THINK ABOUT IT AT ALL THEY JUST GO
.
Be safe kill some birds and have a ton of fun but get home safe.
GOOD LUCK
Mike

hey guys, yes, be very safe out there. i am on our tech team here at the fire dept and i dont want to have to go pluck any of you guys out of the ice. and as sad and hard as it may be if your dog goes out and falls through dont go after him. if the ice didnt support a 60lb dog its deffinatly not going to suppiort a 160+lb man.
stay say and whack some birds. i will be stuck at work all weekend.

Picture from Hiawatha last weekend.....
Don't forget about your pup retrieving on ice. A hard charging dog will hit the ice like it is just water. My buddies lab took a dock dog style leap and smashed through the ice...I thought it would be bad but, he came out with just a small cut. Another reason to put a vest on your dog.
a note for the crew.....Kaie didn't blink any birds this time and ignored the decoys......just a few birds shot but, Kaie was much better than the her first hunt with Cajun.....Getting her out in front and watching the birds and seeing the shot made all the difference in confidence....

Does the ice moan here like it does in Alaska? At night after it's first started to enclose fully you'd swear a woman was mourning the death of someone. Other than that I've been on ice when earth quakes have rumbled through, on the ice when the pressure ridges pop, and my all time favorite double ice! The double ice is scary cause you get a thin layer on top with a water layer in the middle and thick stuff below that. Scares the day lights out of you.

I like to skip rocks on thin ice. mainly because it is the only time I can skip rocks.
It makes a cool noise too.. kind of like wings whistling by...Hap.

Yeah I know what you mean about the double Ice...scares ya with every step...and sometimes i do hear the ice making funny sounds...it used to worry me when I was a kid...my old man always said that it was just the ice getting thicker...don't know if its true though...sometimes parents will say anything to calm there kids down so they can fish a little longer
