What happened to all the bucks?!
« on: September 24, 2014, 10:08:40 AM »
Went up to conconully to do some more scouting. I have gone before and seen many bucks especially in town and in the state park there. But yesterday i came home shocked and confused. There was no deer. Its almost as if something ran them all off. In the spot i was planning to hunt there wasnt one deer not even signs of one and i had seen some before. Just found some bones. I saw one single buck in someones back yard and it was a 2 point and thats it. Usually i would see a couple in town. I did see a heard of 14 deer in the park but it was all does and fawns. Anybody from around there know whats goin on or anybody else have any idea. To me thats just scary somethings wrong.

Somebody has probably been trying to stick an arrow in one in town.   Seems like last year there was one running around with an arrow in its behind and a big buck killed in town :dunno:

Im gonna have to make another trip before modern season. If i still dont see anything i might just have to go somewhere else. It is my first time hunting so im not surpised i havent found a good spot yet. Ill just have to keep trying. I was so certain i had found a good one though. But i guess thats how it goes. If other hunters are pressuring them out there i might have to wait a couple days after muzzy season to let the area relax a bit and see if any deer come in the area again.

August happened   :chuckle:

Deer are much more vulnerable and less aloof in the summer months.  Hunting seasons are set intentionally that way...which is a good thing.

The deer are still in the general area.  Closer to town and they might migrate into the "No Kill Zone" but if you're in the woods, you just need to develop an understanding for that area and how food sources / hunter pressure / weather affects the deer herd.

Don't be discouraged.  Just so you know, that area will be like a zoo in modern rifle season.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
