ALW - Stolen SD card, proposal.
« on: September 24, 2014, 06:17:40 PM »

Humm.....

Well, I suppose you thought you did me a favor by stealing my SD card and not my entire camera? Nope. Instead of stealing my money (camera) you stole my hard work, time, and energy. I packed the camera six miles into the wilderness and 1,500 vertical feet above the trail. I checked the camera twice during the summer; adding more bait and batteries each time.

It had to be one of the Fat-Cat drop camp guys. You know, someone that doesn't appreciate how much work it is to hunt the wilderness.

So, Mr. Fat-Cat, send me my SD card and I will gladly send you my camera. Lets trade. No? Well, Karma is a wonderful thing. Next time you step of that curb and you break an ankle, think of me. Your garage door squished you kids cat? think of me. You car slips out of gear, and takes out the neighbors house? You get the idea.....

Guess I have been very lucky with my cams. I do not spend big money on high quality stuff, do not lock anything up, they are not very far off the trails, but I hide them well. Worsted thing that happened was someone stoled pictures off a cam that sat for 1 1/2 months. Good area, I only received the last 2 days of photos. :yike:

I agree about the hard work, time and energy. Last year I had someone reviewing my pics and then deleting them; hoping I was stupid enough to think nothing was in the area. It may have worked if there wasn't all of these fresh elk tracks everywhere. This year I added and python lock and locked up my access door with a pad lock.

I hate to say it but, anything left on public lands is expected to be stolen. So, all though I feel for you guys, you really can't bitch.

I hope this guy doesn't swing by your camp while you are out hunting. After all, you left you tent and gear unattended on public land....

I hope the guy who stole the camera doesn't plan on using it- that would be illegal.  :yike:

I'm sure he was only trying to do the right thing and remove litter from the wilderness.

Ill have to admit this year while hunting a wilderness area I found a stand, camera, and bait.  I just so happen to have a small pack camera that can read most sd card formats.  I pulled the card looked at the pics and returned everything the way I found it. No one needs to steal the trail cam just get one of these pack cameras, and check the sd cards, let the other person pack all the bait and crap in and you can just look at the pics.  Just make sure to put it all back the way you found it.

Oh wow! Golly that's a great mindset there dude. I guess if you park on the side of the road and leave your rig, it's on public land so I'll take what I want next time..hmm, I somehow have a problem with this mindset.

I am wondering if these "missing" SD cards are from people who don't appreciate their pic being taken.

They didn't take or destroy the camera, i am guessing they just didn't want their pic on there.

Well sounds like you might have to take additional precautions just to be safe.
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.
