I have spent all of my Wetside hunting days in the 448-437 units. I legit have seen NOTHING but a few grouse and a Mountain Beaver. Nothing but old bear scat, and a few older deer prints. An absolute dismal year for this side. To top it off, nearly every road that was open last year is now closed or has signs saying "No Motor Vehicles, No Walk in. violators will be prosecuted". NW Washington has become a joke.

Just for s**ts and giggles I drove over Deer Creek Pass (Finney Creek to Swede Heaven)... I've always read how people say this area is useless for hunting. Well, 2 grouse, miles and miles of walk in hunting and 8 hours later, I now know I never have to take that drive again. 448 unit and North, is an absolute waste of time if your hoping to AT LEAST see fresh sign.  :bash:

I really hope I can find some bucks up there, wouldnt mind a bear also :). I live in stanwood/warm beach area. So that's a good spot for me up there. Any ideas where else to go around the area?

I woulda normally said Cavanaugh, but only one road is open now. All others are leased/owned by timber companies and they don't even allow walk in.

I've been hunting the 437 for 4 years and have seen TONS of blacktail... now getting close is another story. Was able to at least take a shot last year but missed by inches. Saw an awesome 3X3 last year as well but could not close the distance. I like this unit because it's relatively close to home and not too overpopulated with hunters. I went out last weekend to do some scouting, and wife avoidance, with my son and I can't be more disappointed. 2 of the 3 areas I typically hunt have great big "No Hunting/trapping" signs now which will push us into hunting with the crowds... I was really looking forward to November but now I'm thinking it might be a good idea to head east......
Thank God for Hunting...gives me something to think about at work.
