Odds are the guy was hunting deer, being a p.o.s., but he said looking for.  I go out a lot outside of deer season looking for deer.  But when bear or cougar is open, I carry a rifle just in case.  Yes I am looking for deer, yes I am carrying a rifle.  No, I am not going to shoot deer, I am just looking for them for future reference.  It is scouting,  and yeah I have a rifle just in case I get an opportunity to fill my bear or cougar tag.  Hell sometimes i carry my rifle when I'm out scouting or running trail cameras when no big game season is open, because coyote is always open, and nothing makes me crazier than seeing a young careless dog in rifle range when all I have is my sidearm.  All that being said, your gut instinct is probably still correct.  Lots of people are scumbags / morons.

Maybe he's looking for deer and carrying a rifle for protection. He sure isn't hunting deer, because deer season isn't open.   :dunno:

Also, there are bolt action shotguns that might look a lot like a rifle. Maybe you didn't look close enough.

Either way, he wasn't hunting deer. Deer season is not open.

doesnt matter if he was exercising or what he was hunting (but he said he was lookin for deer), either way,  its a rifle restricted area
This says the guy said he was looking for deer. As mentioned, out looking for deer and hunting deer are very different.

If he said he was hunting deer, then I agree with calling it in. If he said he was looking for deer, then I think ya jumped the gun a lil.

You might as well be a poacher making a statement like that.

 :chuckle:
So if I take a rifle into the woods while I scout for deer I'm a poacher? Glad to see all the internet wardens are out in force

In case you did not get it, I was being sarcastic.
Sorry , didn't pick up on that  :chuckle:

wow are you an attorney antlershed? thats the grossest loophole i ever did see. pathetic for a sportsmen to say. i didnt say hunter, i said sportsmen.
No, but why is it wrong for someone to possess a firearm while scouting? I always have a firearm when I'm in the woods. Hope I never run into you. I'd hate to get called in for poaching.
It isn't but when you in a rifle restricted areas. A place you can't carry a hi powered rifle for any hunting.  Pretty illegal to me.
But is it illegal if he's not carrying it for hunting?

Yeah your right there are Shotguns that are built action but by the sounds of it.  I don't know the laws in the fire arm restricted area but I wouldn't think that a gamie would not be happy with him.  Ohh yeah that area is all behind locked gates and motor vehicle restricted.   He was on a motor bike as stated.

No. The firearm restrictions only apply to hunting.

Sounds like a no brainer. Hope he learns his lesson, I've met people like that. That have no concept for hunting regulations, just think its all fair game

Washington's regs are probably the easiest to read in the country... because we are restricted so much. Read the California regs and talk about confusing, that state has the goofiest regs books I've ever read.

You mean like how they don't list the end dates?

Example:
Season opens the 3rd Saturday in September and continues for 35 days.....

for the 10th time, the man said he was HUNTING DEER, he had no bow, just a high caliber rifle, its not modern season and its a rifle restricted area, and if all that was allowed he had no orange.  lord didnt i say all this in the "opening" post

Alaska game pamphlet is so easy a 4 year old couldn't complain.  Each unit has its own section.  It is a model of efficiency.  "Where would you like to hunt?  Okay here are the rules."

Must have been a tribal member then. Or he was a poacher. The type of gun is irrelevant if he's hunting deer out of season.

if you read the regs or even tried to know them you couldn't possibly miss the repeated  NO... not even for personal protection during archery unless its a handgun. no, no , no , no and again its still a no. thats why your repeated arguments have been laughed at bevause i keep stating no its not allowed. not even allowed to be with you while hunting, ESPECIALLY in a rifle restricted area. BTW restricted means NOT ALLOWED.

this dude was acting on a triple whammy no-no
