Im amazed at how many people are willing to work for the wdfw for free. I know why gamies. Enfore the laws, statutes,  and regulations, the get compensated very well, but they have trained some people to run and report to them for free. That i dont get.  We learned to mind our own business when i grew up and i still admire a person who doesnt concern themselves with everyone elses activities but rather minds thier own business.    Who cares what he was doing. Sounds like he was doing what he wanted and it had no impact on the OPs activity.   Plain and simple.     Even my 10  year old daughter understands. Minding your own business.

Just to expand on Bigtex's post, it is NOT illegal to carry a modern rifle in a firearm restricted area, it is NOT illegal to target shoot with a MR in a restricted area, it is NOT illegal to sight in a MR in a firearm restriced area, and it is not illegal for me to shoot racoons going after my chickens with a modern rifle in a firearm restricted area.

However, many, many, many people (from personal experience with crabbers and fishermen) do NOT read the regulations, or maybe understand them.

Some people like to mess with other folks, especially if they know they can't really get into trouble for it ("officer, is there a dead deer that I shot?  I'm getting in shape for my hunt later in the month.  I'm also sighting my rifle in... I was just messing with this guy that started yelling at me and assumed I was doing something wrong.").

Fastdam, I'm sorry that you are not willing to get involved in preserving the good name of hunters or preserving our wildlife resources from thieves.  I think we should all be willing to let people know if they are indeed doing something wrong.  Even if it just appears that they are, a polite conversaion might not be out of order.

I "confront" (politely and with the intent to inform not scold) people all the time out here on the water when I KNOW they are doing something illegally (crabbing on closed day, keeping small crabs, salmon fishing in a closed area - all seen this summer).  I have never called a warden, but if I saw someone shoot a deer, or bonk a salmon illegally, I would.

KC, good on you for being concerned, however, with that being said, calling a warden on this guy, in this scenario, was probably a waste of the warden's time.

I was taught the same thing growing up.  Other peoples business is just that.  But I was also taught to stand up for something.  Personally I think that's what is wrong with this country.  Too many people stand by and just watch as others get away with murder.  If KC takes it upon himself to do something for the good of the whole then good on him,  at least he did something,  Those who just look the other way are part of the problem, and deep down they know it.

Rant over......

:yeah:

The only thing I will add is that the area KC mentioned is a DNR area. DNR does not allow target shooting in this area, or basically any DNR land in King County. So had he just been there to target shoot he would be in violation.

Also, many of the WDFW firearm restricted areas overlap with county no shooting areas. So in some cases, yes it would be a violation to discharge the weapon, however you would be cited under a county offense, not a hunting offense.

The guy on the bicycle was all NUNYA too;  until someone stopped him - interrogated him - and then reported him to WDFW.

I always try to judge the charactor of the person first. Did he look honest? Did he look you in the eye when he said he was just looking for deer?etc. I've been around enough people and long enough to know. Real poachers stick out like a sore thumb :twocents:

Follow him next time.  If he sets anything down on the ground and leaves it unattended to go to the bathroom, it is yours to take, vandalize, and inspect/alter, take his ammo, you do whatever you want to it.  Then post it on here and you will have all kinds of support  :chuckle: :chuckle:

putting out all kinds of sarcasm from another thread.

I just hope he wasn't up there setting up a dummy camp to save his spot for modern deer season. Maybe we should send a search party and of we find a tent we can steal it  :chuckle:

And to recap, I am all for hunters keeping their eyes out for people breaking the laws/poaching. However, it has been stated numerous times that this guy didn't break any laws. By DFW definition, he wasn't hunting based on the words of the OP. I don't think he broke the speed limit on the mt bike. Next we'll probably see the OP bashing DFW for wasting resources and taxpayer dollars...

Last question I will raise, how do I get a cool kid badge that I keep hearing about?  :IBCOOL:
