They require just a single hunter orange article. A hat is sufficient to satisfy the law.

Cool thanks. Orange vest it is. Glad to know it's not a "you must wear a hat and a vest is not a substitute" sort of state. Nothing required at all in NM & Az but I wear it anyway. Too many yay who's out there with a rifle.

A single article of fluorescent orange is required.  A buddy got a ticket for wearing a Sitka orange jacket which apparently was not fluorescent enough.  Plus he didn't have his WA hunter ed card on him so f&g hammered him.   Good luck!

CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS

All big or trophy game hunters must wear a hat, shirt, jacket, coat, vest, or sweater of a fluorescent orange color in a visible manner. Licensed archery hunters during the special archery seasons, and licensed archery hunters hunting in limited quota archery only or limited quota archery or legal muzzle loading firearm seasons are not required to wear fluorescent orange. The wearing of fluorescent orange clothing while hunting small game and game birds is recommended as a safety measure and is required when hunting pheasants on department wildlife habitat management areas (a pheasant management stamp is also needed when hunting these department management areas).

What was the fine for not having hunters safety card?

Is there an age requirement?  I'm "of age" not to need one in WA

The last time I hunted in Wyoming, if your an OUT-OF-STATE hunter you have to have a hunter ed. card regardless of age. It only take a minute to call them. The judge don't care what folks say on here.

:yeah:  Non-Res must have a card; except you can do a one time Mentor year. The mentor must have a card and be with the hunter at ALL times. You must have a form signed by both parties in in your possesion. I was always asked for my card before my tags/license.  :yike:

I had 2 different Wardens tell me that the orange flag built into my pack was sufficient.  :twocents:     Other than that I always wore a hat

The law Bob posted is what was current when I worked for WY G&F.  Nonresidents born BEFORE 1/1/1966 did not require a hunter safety card.

Deke, the ones I worked with would have written you if you didn't have a hat, shirt, jacket, coat, vest, or sweater of a fluorescent orange color in a visible manner.  I knew Casper area wardens to write hunters with a hood over their orange hat (no orange visible from the back), an orange camo hat that was faded and no longer fluorescent, a guy wearing only orange gloves, and a guy who had an orange bag on his head that fell off while he was crawling after antelope (that last guy also blew a 0.16 BAC at 11am, so he had a few other problems too).
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I just checked their regs online, the requirements for hunter ed and fluorescent orange requirement for hunting big or trophy game have not changed.

You guys must be hunting in a different Wyoming than the rest of us.  This is quoted right out of the Wyoming Hunting Regulations: (Note that it doesn't differentiate between resident or non-resident)

HUNTER SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

No person born on or after January 1, 1966, may apply for and receive any Wyoming hunting license, nor take any wildlife by the use of firearms on land other than that of his/her own family, unless the person possesses and can exhibit a hunter safety certificate.

Carry a copy of the regulations with you to show the "misinformed" Game Warden the next time you're asked for proof of certification.

Not going to argue (too many inter-net lawyers) but I had to have a Hunters Ed card when I hunted Wyoming back in 2003. Oh and by the way, I was born in 1957. As a matter of fact one person from out part got a ticket, and his hunting permit pulled.

It's a National Park Service rule, not state.

Quote
The park's elk reduction program is an important management tool that differs somewhat from other elk hunting programs in the region. The use of archery, hand guns, or other non-center fire ammunition rifles is not permitted, nor is the use of artificial elk calls. In addition, hunters, regardless of age, are required to carry a hunter education card, and to carry and have immediately accessible bear spray as a non-lethal deterrent for use during potential bear encounters. Information packets accompanying each permit warn hunters of the risk of bear encounters and offer tips on how to minimize the probability of human-bear conflicts.
