I bought a savage  in 7mm last year it came with scope on it. All I did was make sure scope mounts were tight took 3 shots at 150 yds. All within 1" of each other 1.5 " high. Winchester 150 gr factory loads.     :dunno:

Probly a dumb question... but did you check the bases? You mentioned rings... how about action screws?

To answer your initial question, Savage's customer service is pretty good. They'll make it right.

Before sending it off though, check the action bolts and scope bases. Then see if the barrel is making contact with the stock. I've seen them make hard pressure with the barrel when shot off of a rest and that will do horrible things to accuracy.

Are the bullets key holing on target, or are they just scattered? I've never had a Savage rifle or factory Savage barrel (out of 14 rifles and easily 40 different barrels) shoot that poorly. Something is very, very wrong!

Good luck

There is something bad wrong with the rifle. Savage has treated me good when ever I dealt with them..Besides,,I'll match my Savages against your high price rifles any day.

Savage makes good quality stuff for sure and has excellent customer service in my experience. Like others already said, check the rifle over for loose screws etc or barrel touching the fore end of the stock.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I had the trigger mount screws strip out in my accustock. Replaced with entire stock in short order. Very happy with Savage Arms.

I'm no particular fan of Savage rifles, their receivers just look fugly to me, BUT I can honestly say I've never seen one that didn't shoot well.  Usually, they shoot really well so I'd say your cousins rifle could very well have some sort of issue and its been my experience, with regard to sending things back because a companies product/s isn't working properly, that if there is a legitimate cause for their product/s not working properly they always have no problem at all fixing it.

Also, If by chance you get to talk to a Savage Tech on the phone, remember, you catch a lot more bees with honey than you do vinegar.  Sometimes these folks can be quirky and you need/want their help more than they need yours and our frustrations can come across pretty aggressive and abrasive on the phone.  Just food for thought.

You could try asking here...

http://www.savageshooters.com/forum.php

Loads of info on Savage rifles, if nothing else.   ;)

I do love all my Savage Rifles.  In fact, I have another on order right now.  I've never seen issues with one like you're having.  I did have problems somewhat similar with my Stag 6.8spc  upper.  Could barely get it on paper at 25 yards.  Stag replaced the upper, now it's sub moa...  Hope it works out.

Check the bases not just for snugness to the reciever, but the actual base itself.. Cheap alum weaver bases will peen with snappy kickers.  Ive had your problem.   I ditched tje weavers and put leupold cam lock and adjustable wimdage bases and problem solved. Worth a check.
