when to quit for fall bear

Hey guys,

I'm on this forum all the time reading and searching, but generally I stay pretty quiet. I'm writing to ask this one because I can't find anywhere that it's mentioned specifically.

What time of year do you give up hunting for fall bear? I've been hunting hard this year, but I haven't connected so far. Should I keep on it to the official close of the season or will I be wasting my time as the bears start to hibernate?

I hunt both coastal and foothill areas. Is there a different date for different elevations?

When the season ends or the snow gets too deep...which ever comes first.

Never give up. Well till the season is closed anyway.  Keep at it and it will pay off. You may not get one this year but if not you will still have learned a little more about your hunting area and maybe a little bout fall bears

 Actually the very best bear hunting is just beginning!!!! Find berries up high and you'll find bears. They are starting their "feeding frenzy" period where they'll be out ALL DAY! Hides are in great shape now. It will get even better when the snow starts flying. I've witnessed bears running from patch to patch this time of year in the middle of the day. I have video of a bear doing this. My buddy shot him when he stopped to graze.

Last year I seen more bear in October than I did in August and September combined. At all hours of the day.

If there is a food source they won't go to bed. I've seen them in the winter huckleberries late in December. All the bears that ever gave me problems in the bee apiary were late in the year too.

for me around the end of spetember. after that id have to happen into one while deer hunting or something..

Wow! Quick replies. Thanks for the help. I'll keep after them for another 5 weeks or so. It'll give me something to do until the late elk opens for archery.

Longer you wait the bigger and fatter they are.    I see them generally clear up into Thanksgiving and then possibly later depending on the weather.

Great question ! I was wondering the same thing ,this is my first bear season and as you may have noticed I got plenty of wonderment.What ive been experiamceing is contrary to what was just posted,not that anybody is wrong or anything,(don't want to wake the rough crowd )ive just been seeing bears allday long continuousely on a trail cam during the summer and now that im out there continuously I don't see them except the one time. I had him but heard stuff behind him so according to the bear manly manual I made sure it wasn't cubs ,well it wasn't it was the big dude I had seen during the summer,anyways between the two didn't get a shot.Since then ive seen nothing,or heard them blowing up stumps and stuff like before,so as usual I have questions,any input is very appreciated

there food of choice has changed since summer or late summer. They are focused on fall foods now and may just not be in the areas you seen them earlier in the year.  Keep at it tho cause this cool weather will have them in almost constant feeding.   
eat, nap, eat, nap. Not a bad life in my opinion

   Exactly.   Bear are where the food is.  THey are almost feeding 24/7 now.

Biggest bear I have seen to date was in Nov. Just never got a shot at it.

With the weather we are haven here on east side , I think the bear activity will be active a little longer. Just checked trail cam yesterday and we got at least 3 bears wondering around our place. One is the blond I hope to find during shooting hrs. Stay with it till Nov 15th. One will show for you
