Protected Species-Photo Gallery
« on: December 12, 2008, 01:16:02 PM »
New to the board-Thanks for letting me aboard.
I found your site through Predator Masters...really nice to have a Washington State focus.

I hunt coyotes, bobcats, mountain lion as well as just about every game bird so I come from a hunters view.
In checking out the small game photo's in the Gallery portion I noticed two-if not three-photo's of illegally taken non-game species. One even was captioned "After hours in 90 degree heat, I had to kill something" or words to that effect. These do not enhance our reputations or protect our privilege as hunters.  To advertise the taking of protected game by adult or child is not legal at the worst and shows lack of credible judgement at the least.

Anti's, land owners or just folks on the borderline of judging hunting as a valid tool of population management see these types of offenses and react accordingly.

Would be smart to take them down and to think twice before uploading shot's of non-game species hanging from your game belt.

Can you be more specific of where they are at, you can pm either Ray, Sisu and I and I am sure we'd take a gander.  Any of the moderators actually but we tend to focus on the birds I think.  You are right about illegal activity and we do not promote any of it on this site by any means, but sometimes what some folks think is illegal is only a misunderstanding.  Specifics would be good, especially in a pm.

Judging from the quote used, he is referring to a pic of a squirrel in the gallery section, under small game.

Yep...two picks (one with the heat caption and the other a cute tike with a pellet gun). Both of those are Douglas Tree Squirrels...protected species. The other is a 20 Yard Shot..PERFECT...could be a another type (Beechy Squirrel maybe...the ones found along the Tieton and Naches River systems) but hard to tell.

Thanks Chukar, Bone is right, there is no tolerance on this site for illegal activity and I can assure you it was an oversite on our side.

Just another idea, some people here do hunt other states where some of our protected game is legal.  May not be the case but another possibility.  Otherwise I agree completely.  :)

and Welcome  :hello:
