New to Bobcat Hunting
« on: December 12, 2008, 02:16:03 PM »
I am new to bobcat hunting and looking for any advice.  I guess not just bobcat, a coyote and/or cougar would be great too.  I have an electronic caller and decoy.  I have been out a couple of times up in the Hancock area, with no luck.  I know there are some people on here that hunt the Hancock area, so any advice to that area would be helpful to me as well.  I'm not looking for specific locations up there, just any general information to help me out would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

There are lots of threads on here about calling in animals, some in the bear forum too. Take a look around you will find plenty of info..

a few tips..

remain still

have some sort of decoy with movement so the animal focuses on that..(feathers on a stick, etc)

with bobcats, you dont need to worry so much about your scent as you do movement..

be patient...they are not like yotes...

have fun most of all. Good luck! Never hunted the hancock area, so, I cant help ya there.

me and my partner usually do longer sets for bobcats.  45 minutes to an hour.  cats like to stalk in taking their time where coyotes usually come charging in for an easy meal.  our coyote stands we usually do for about 30 minutes.  make sure you target thick brushy stuff like river bottoms and slash piles....  thats bout all i know waiting for my partner to call one in for me...  ;)
Ill take 'Buck Fever' over 'Swine flu'...
