Looking for a replacement powder for H870
« on: October 04, 2014, 02:40:59 PM »
Years ago I reloaded for my 7mm Weatherby Mag with 175 grn Nosler partitions. Had a screamer load that was for me pretty accurate. I see they don't make H870 anymore so I'm looking to what replacement powders are out there that and push a 175 grn Nosler Partition at 3000 fps or better and not blow the rifle apart.

If you want a more readily available replacement then try Hodgdon's US869. If you want to stick with H 870 you can still get it. It's sold by ThunderBird Cartridge Co. as T-870. It's the same powder as H870.

Badhabit, what's your location? I have a pound of H870 I'll give you, no charge.

I'll need to find Lapua's burn chart again to make absolute certain I remember correctly, but seems to me N570 had the identical burn rate.  Just a little bit slower than Retumbo.

Wow, Thanks for the generous off Jim the Plumber. I'm in Yakima, and get to the Potholes fairly often during duck season.
