Marcworth forest.

I am new to hunting and we just bought a house in Duvall near the Marcworth forest. I have been trying to find some info about this bit of woods and it is not easy. I drove around up there and found most roads to be gated. I drove to the confluence with youngs truck trail and cherry valley truck trail and found a hat blocking the rest of the roads. Anyone know how much you can access from the other side, the sultan side, or the cherry valley side. Thanks.

Little to nothing is accessible by anything other than boots or mountain bikes. Too many slobs of different varieties ruined it and they gated all of it. Probably improved the hunting tenfold really by doing that.

I"ve spent a fair bit of time out there, training the dog, scouting, hiking, etc.  I've only been in there once during deer season (last year) and was surprised to find few people other than road hunters.  I only saw a couple of trucks parked and may 5 or so driving around.  This was from the Duvall access.  If you get behind the gates (a bike would be perfect) you'll have it to your self.

I haven't found any great maps of the area, but you are pretty safe if you head east from the main road and stay within a few miles.  If you go too far east, you'll run into Hancock property which you need a permit to hunt. 

Bring a bear tag.  I've seen more bear sign than deer sign out there.  Good luck.

Thanks guys. I think a bike needs to happen. I'll be out there over the weekend and evenings also. Bear and dear tag in hand.

I hunted a few times in their last year, saw some shady people shooting at does telling me they were giant bucks and a few four wheelers that shouldn't be back there. Also the state gives the keys to disabled hunters so you will see people driving around back there. A couple parked by a clear cut I was sitting on last year and started yelling at me asking if had any luck

We were back there a week ago. We defiantly saw some strange ones. The "woods" are not what they use to be. Thanks for info.

I saw a disabled vet up there when I was bear Hunting. He drove his old beater car up there and almost shot me. I came around a corner past his blind and he had the shotgun pointed right at me. He then sighed and said "oh! I thought you were the bear". 10 minutes later I shot my bear. Lol

I found a few recent clear cuts using Google Earth up there.  I am going to try there this weekend.  Thanks again for your insight and info.

Just access Stossel Creek from the Big Rock road.  You'll encounter a gate on your left, then driver further north (on Stossel) to a larger intersection and encounter another gate to your left.  I've been behind both on bike.

Always see lots of bear poop and does.

Should have the place mostly to yourself.

I worked for the state one summer and did some logging road surveys and some stream survesy off the Stossel crk side.  wooltie is right you should be able to get in a ways on the main line and have the place to yourself.  Lots of bears.  I saw a few nice bucks in there while they were in velvet.  If you get off the road a little bit you should have the place to yourself.

You can access the main line about 5 miles, then it's gated off. All of the spur roads off the main line are gated.

Stossel Creek road access is off the Kelly Road, which is off of Big Rock Road. Take a left at the T at the end of Big Rock where it meets Kelly Rd.

either side left or right or the end on Stossel Creek has deer.  But, you won't be by yourself.  There will be plenty of others, just not crazy crowded.
