2014 peaches muzzy bull(pics added)
« on: October 07, 2014, 05:24:53 PM »
Well after all summer of preparing for this hunt it came pretty quick.  I bought calls practiced, read a lot of material.  Thanks elknut a lot of your techniques and knowledge they came in really handy understanding what the elk were saying.  3 days prior to the hunt I made my way to little naches.  We scouted hard everyday and there were bulls in every drainage it seemed.  Most of the area I scouted in the summer I didn't even hunt.  The elk told me where I was going to hunt!  Opening day we went in to an area where I saw a 360 class bull the day before.  I even went up at midnight to bugle to make sure he was still in the area,  Which he was. We got in there and heard him bugle right away.  Got in and started calling and the wind screwed us and he was gone.  On to the next place we went.  We got down into the drainage and there were 3 bulls going nuts.  Started calling and had a nice 5x5 come in at 20 yards.  Man let me tell you it was hard not to shoot.  I looked at my buddy and said I hope I don't regret that later.  On to the next bull. " The growler". He bedded with his cows around half way up the mountain.  Bugling like crazy all morning.  He would not budge from his cows.  I ended up getting busted by his cows and he was gone.  We got close to or three times to him throughout the day but just couldn't put it together.  Chris saw him and said he was a nice 6.  I needed to make some phone calls so we went up to one of the only places I got cell service.  Made my phone calls and thought to myself why not let a bugle out here.  I did so and response right away in the timber.  One of the weakest bugles I heard the whole trip.  What the heck and dove into the timber and started calling.  He came right in to 40 yards and saw he was a big bull but couldn't get a shot off because of how thick the timber was.  the bull sat there for a while and raked a tree and then disappeared. we sat there for a while and nothing. So I decided to walk over to where the bull was and I see something out of the corner of my eye and turn to my right and there he was 10 yards away staring at me yes 360+ bull.  I turn to shoot and he dove off the bench and never saw him again.  End of day one.  Day two was a day of bad wind warmer weather and the elk were done being vocal by 9:30.  Later in the day I needed fuel but did not want to loose out on the evening hunt , So I decided to hunt the other end of the unit because it was close to the fuel stop.  On my way bye camp I see a buddy park there and grabbed him on the way.  Emac on here.  We get fuel and head up in the hills.  I spotted a few cows while I was driving down the road.  We stopped emac said big bull!! Wait big 6 but he is broke off after his g3 on the other side.  Anyways we drive off and I said lets go back and see if there was anything else. we  Got up the hill and started calling and the bull was pissed off. He came close but he drew the line that he wasn't coming any closer.  So I started up the hill while emac stayed behind.  I was getting close and had emac bugle to keep him fired up.  Right at last light the bull appears at about 120 yards.  All I saw was the fronts and Boom!  We get up the hill and see no blood.  Dang I thought to myself.  I decided to walk up the hill a bit and there he was. Big bull down!!!!  Yes he was broke off but I have no regrets. He has all the mass great tine lengths strong fronts. My cameras flash took a *censored* and didn't get any field photos.  I am bummed about that.  I just wanted to thank you Erin, Chris, Steve, and Richard.  I had a blast and am glad you guys could be a part of a very special hunt!!! for some reason I can't get the pics to upload that I do have.  I'll get it figured out and get em posted up

Nice bull, muzzy guys did well except for one idiot I ran into that knew nothing about elk hunting that unit, I offered to help him get on a bull and he declined.
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...
