whidbey island
« on: October 08, 2014, 08:39:39 AM »
New hunter. Been out one year and didnt fill tag. Got ab opportunity to hunt private land on whidbey island. Is it worth it?  Looking for more spots to hunt on west side from monroe to maple valley. Any advice is appreciated.

Worth it will depend on the area. Can you scout it? Hang a cam? I would be concerned about any neighboring properties that may have issue with you retrieving a downed animal. Some nice deer taken there.

You can hunt on Whidbey but, you will spend way more time knocking on doors trying to find a landowner that will allow access.  A lot of people on the island do not necessarily agree with hunting deer, but would rather hit them with their cars I guess.  Also, it's not like you are going to set up a genuine hunting camp anywhere here in the traditional sense.  It can be done, however I'm wondering if it would be the type of experience you were hoping for.  By far archery would be the preferred method if you choose to put your time in on this.  The good news: these deer will taste like farm raised animals...

Since we know nothing about the land you have access to, we can't give you any opinions.

thanks for the advice. I spoke more with the land owner and did a little scouting this evening. Looks very promising. I have to use a bow and arrow on the hunt per the land owners request. he has a blind already built on site. and a tree stand. will post pics if I get my tag filled.

Bring some apples, stomp on a few to get the scent out.  Be sure to place them where you want the deer's head.  I always keep a few with me so if a doe, or a horse, eats the one's I've put out, I can toss a few more.

Good shooting!
