KAPOWSIN OPENING DAY
« on: October 09, 2014, 12:20:47 AM »
So what is the time we can go in the gate? Is it an hour and a half before shooting light or and hour and a half before sunrise? Never been there for opening day I'll be going in the bridgegate. What's the program? I have a long drive to where I want to be and want to go in when I can.

its an hour or hour and half before light, dont worry, you will have plenty of company, most of the time you dont even have to get out to open or close the gate do to the flow of traffic, generally there will be a line at the gate waiting for the magical minute to open the gate  good luck

Directly from Hancock rules & regulations:

3. Access dates are from January 1, 2014 through March 30, 2015. Access is allowed any day of the week from one and one half hours before sunrise to one and one half hours after sunset. No access is allowed on July 3rd, 4th or 5th. The property owners reserve the right to limit or prohibit access to any portion of the property due to safety, fire hazard, extreme weather or other asset protection reason. Property owners may add or delete access areas by posting signs as the only notification to permit holders.

FYI, last year a warden was at the intersection of the 6 & 62 Rds turning guys around if they were in too early. Didnt kick them out, just made them go back down and wait.
Just follow the parade, you will be ok.

7:20 sunrise it says for Saturday.
Maybe everyone will go in bridge gate  :chuckle:
So I guess that means 5:50 gate time. Good luck to everyone heading out there.

Sweet thanks for the help! Ya Im gonna be mountain biking in pretty far not to worried about crowds. Guess I'll just park at the gate and wait for 5:50. Saw a monster last Tuesday he was about 6 miles in. Did anyone else notice the deer activity was way slow after they opened it back up after the archery elk closure? Hopefully they get moving.

So how did it go?  Anybody connect up there?  First year in a while I didn't hunt opening day at kapowsin.  Hunted hancock land on the coast and scouted for my rifle cow tag.  Heading up to kapowsin after the Hawks for a evening hunt.

Saw 7 deer mountain biking yesterday no bucks. Dad missed a buck on the run, saw 6 deer no bucks today. I think moon phase has a lot to do with the little deer activity and no elk activity haven't seen an elk in two days usually see tons

Also a friend of mine came out yesterday afternoon I believe around three or four o'clock and the security guy had only checked 2 deer all day on. He was at bridgegate side.

Silver Dodge doesn't sound familiar. I have not seen Clyde for awhile, just wondering if he still worked there?

Think his name is andy.  Almost rather see him anymore.  Usually it's a half hour bs session I can't get away from with clyde.  I hunted sun evening up there.  Only saw 1 doe.  I went to a big cut.  Parked down the rd and walked up the main rd along the cut and down a skid rd to a landing.  Had a rig come down that rd.  After going 10yds u can clearly see me and see it's the end 200yds  down the rd.  Theses guys pull up, slam their doors all 4 start with the binos and one says in a plain loud voice.  See any deer?  Right at dark.

Lol fuuu that's the worst feeling man. I had a 4x4 in archery season a few years ago coming down this ravine I was in about 120 yards from me then I hear a guy on his radio telling his hunting partner he hadn't seen anything, LOUD AS FUUU didn't even try to whisper. I was so bummed. Deer walked right back up the hill.

My buddy got a 1x2 on Sat evening. Heard a few shots, but didn't see any other deer on the ground. Still running into big Bulls. My 16 yr old thought he was going to get tore up by this bull, it finally left him alone. He was a little bit shook up!

Pretty slow in there today, saw 2 does and heard only a few shots. While walking back to my truck Monday around 10:00, I hear a shot real close. Walk around a bend and see a truck pulling away. Pack of coyotes sounded like they were celebrating pretty good in that area around 8:00 this morning.

That's too bad.  Either too lazy to go look for it or shot a doe or spike accidentally and left it.

No bucks seen yet  with 2 1/2 days in the field in south of the river Kapowsin.
This year So far driving to my hunting spot, I've had to stop behind two rigs trying to block off a hole road system Before first light, trying to be the first one through to road hunt. Both times they had no problem moving out of the road when I explained this is not how we do things in here.

Had one guy last year refuse to roll down his window and even talk to me. I locked my front hubs in and wheeled around him almost getting stuck. And of course I got the high beams shinned on my as I drove on.
Talked to Clyde about what was happening out there and he says to just get there license number or permit number off the windshield sticker, and he would pull there permit. They will not tolerate blocking roads.

I was able to get a day off and hunt up there on  Saterday . Heard a few shots but not that many. Ran into one guy with his son, the father shot a small 2 point on Wednsday  in the rain, while rubbing his antlers on a small tree. Said he was smelling pretty rutty. Hunted all day in the usual good spots and no deer to be seen.

Too funny . These guys blocking roads must be new. You don't just park in middle of the road. You park in middle of the road in a strategic spot so when someone comes up behind you you start driving like 2 miles an hour. They get so pissed off they either turn around or take the next road that you pass. Buncha Rookies. And 4 am is about an hour before daylight right? See you guys in there ;)

I went in this AM.  Saw three bucks.  A 1x2, button buck, and a 3x3.  They were sparing a little, and were with two or three does.  Bucks are starting to show themselves.

I hunted all day Monday.  Came out after dark.  Last deer I saw was around 1200.  Big bodied deer I suspect was a buck at 850 yards.  Never saw his (its) head. He was in the tall thick repod, and by the time I got the spotting scope out it was MIA.  Passed on the smaller bucks seen so far, waiting and hoping for a big one.
