Nice animal, looks like it took an antler in the eye.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Nicely done!  A lot of folks could learn a thing or two from your post and superb recovery job.  Persistence pays when all else seems dismal.  You did everything right and found your buck.  Had you pushed it right off the bat, you likely would have clued him in that he was being followed.  Your odds in recovery would have dropped dramatically.
