starter bow for my 11 yr old
« on: September 02, 2014, 05:53:47 PM »
My son told me today that he wants to bow hunt....whats a good bow to start him out with? I'm taking him with me this weekend to elk camp and he's pretty pumped up and I'm sure its just going to fuel the fire to bow hunt as soon as he hears his first elk bugle

Look for a used Diamond Razors Edge.  Super adjustability, he could hunt with it and not outgrow it unless he gets to the point he wants a speed bow.

My 9 yr old and my 12 yr old both shoot the Diamond Infinite Edge. Great bow that will grow well into adulthood.

i shot the Diamond razor edge, i payed for it by cleaning toilets when i was 14 years old, i got some great use out of that bow and shot my first doe that year with it! I just turned 19 and upgraded to the hoyt charger (which is amazing) but i used the razor edge for most of my youth, you should have him go to a shop or even Cabelas to shoot it.
God only game me so many sunrises and I'm not missing a damn one

Both of my daughters shoot the Mission Menace.  My youngest is 8 and shoots it with a 17" draw length with the draw weight bottomed out.  My 14 year old has a 25" draw and uses it as a hunting bow at about 43# draw weight.  It has a range of 17"-30" draw length in 1" increments, and from about 15#-52#draw weight so it has plenty of range for long-term use. You can adjust the draw length easily just by removing a screw and rotating the modules. I have been very impressed with the performance.  I purchased their bows at Fletch Setter Archery in Rainier, Wa.  The owner Craig Norris is a good guy so it's worth the drive from Spanaway for me to support the small business.
Hunt hard.  Hunt with intensity.  Earn your trophy.
