Almost finished this years addition to the full body spread
«

With the birth of our first child I did have much time but I managed to finish these guys to add to the west side field spread, I have a few more to finish for this year some pintails and touch up on other FB & floaters . These all started as beaters or blanks from a few different sources I paint / fix them how I want, to suit where we hunt, of course costom decoys are not required to shoot ducks but I enjoy and am eternally frustrated by the painting process. & I don't have the time or desire to carve right now.

Wow! Those look great! Would love to know how you paint them, what paints you use and how long it takes to put out a deke?

Thanks,
I use a airbrush for most of it and a few diffrent types of fine & fan brushes for dry brushing & details. Time per deek I don't want to even think about it..
If you have a large block of time you can line em up & shoot each color as a step and bang em out fairly quick, however I don't so it's usually a little here & their
The most time goes in to prep work, so the paint stays. I use golden matte fluid acrylics & ppg UV 100% acrylic paint, gilden paints are good too just buy their top end products.

Those look amazing! i've been collecting deeks that need repainted. Ive been looking into getting an airbrush, but unsure what to get. What do you use for a gun and compressor?

That spread does look a lot better than the pink flamingos that I typically see in most lawns. Now you just have to get out and hunt over them.

I use a old Paashe single action mostly, I have a double as well but I like the single better.
I have a cheep harbor freight compressor, cost me $40 I think. If you want to do repaints it's all about the plastic type & prep for the paint to actually stay. Also use a clear coat (testors dull) & flash heat it off, acrylic paint takes a long time as to fully cure.
I use a 2 part automotive type paint on geese but I recommend u stay with the acrylics.
I will post pink flamingos next time.. As far as hunting goes I have been trying to figure out what you are supposed to do with these, that's a good idea..
