Found a old friend
« on: October 14, 2014, 05:07:19 PM »
Two years ago i ran into a huge buck by blind luck i was trailing a buck that i had nicked was taking my time trying to find a blood trail i finally found a few drops so i was being careful and sneaking well i came around a knob and saw something i couldn't figure out what it was then i saw him take a breath then it dawned on me this was a deer the body was huge well he had his head late flat on the ground then he raised his head and couldn't believe how wide of a rack and tall he was for a whitetail all i could do was watch him leave down the hill then last year i went in looking for this buck but couldn't find him i thought maybe someone got him or he didn't make thru the winter. well fast forward to opening week this year saturday was so windy and nasty that all the deer were all over the place my partner did get his buck i only seen one buck but he was moving fast in the timber no shot well sunday rolls around and i started my morning walk i dropped down and first thing got in to 12 or 14 does worked my way thru them without blowing them thru the woods gone maybe 100 yards boom up comes a 4x4 can't get a shot off well now i start moving slower trying to be quite come around the same knob and up jumps the same old big ass buck got off two quick shots as he is moving faster than a animal that size should i can't beleve that i blew a chance at this big guy i will be heading back out saturday but i don't think i will see this big guy again this year did see 3 more shooters that day but never got a chance at them well there is always next year for the big guy this old guy is one smart deer i hunt in a 3 point or better unit hope to get one saturday but my thoughts will be on missing the big one
