Need help with duck/goose field hunt please!!
« on: October 14, 2014, 09:22:06 PM »
Ok fellas requesting some help! I have been doing waterfowl for years and in Nevada and Montana but I am currently stationed here at Fairchild afb. I hunted mainly Pend Oreille river last season but have never done a field hunt! :( I have asked at least 6 land owners within reasonable area and they have always shot me down and I was dressed professional and am a guy who respects the areas I hunt enough to make it the same or better when I leave! I have heard of pothole area and sprague but when I look at maps unsure of state land and private(really tricky it seems!). I love to scout but am frustrated it comes up so short around here. I know it's a long shot and don't wanna take someone's primo spot, but any help or suggestions is much appreciated. Or if you would be willing to let me even tag along on a group/single man hunt with you that would be a lot of fun as well! I have about 16 goose shells and 8-10 full bodies which two are magnums and huge!  Also have a ton Of floaters both geese and duck I can dig trench and use as laying field set up or make some stake type rigs. I just got a new layout blind and it's itching to get used outside of my lawn ;)Thanks again guys/gals.

Bigmac, get on the WDFW site and check out the hunt by reservation only and by permission areas in Grant and Adams counties. There are lots of fields to hunt geese in. Also call the office in Ephrata for a copy of their leased corn fields in the same areas. Dec and Jan are great months to target geese on the water. Also the Royal Booster club has a ton of land around Royal City, good for pheasant and geese. If you like to scout you'll find honks in their fields. Levi from the Mardon Duck Taxi was grousing about how many birds were holding on the Royal fields and nobody ever setting up on them to push them off. You also have the Waluke Slope hunting club which is a  booster club for Mattawa. They have some fields around Mattawa that are huntable. Prices are reasonable.
Make sure you "mud" your new layout blind. Mudding is rubbing mud into the fabric to remove the new fabric shine. Also if you don't buy a snow cover hit your local Wal-Mart or Craft store and buy some XMas tree flocking to spray your layout with when hunting in the snow. It washes off with a power wash at the car wash.
