Chewuch Late Tag Timing
« on: October 16, 2014, 10:28:04 AM »
I have a good friend who drew this tag and we have been going back and forth on timing. I've been told and always been under the impression that the first 10 days of November tend to be the ideal rut timing for these deer, but he has heard that the middle of the month, 10-20th, is the peak rut timing.

I have spent little to no time in the valley that time of year, so I don't have a lot of input. For those of you that have, what are your thoughts? He is prepared to set aside a week+ of time to hunt, so we want to make sure we are choosing wisely.

Well, I'll post what I just posted in another thread.

Quote
Just like anywhere else in Washington state.   You'll start to note rut behavior anytime soon increasing until about Halloween.  it will generally fire shortly thereafter and be hot and heavy for a week and a half or so.  It will then start to taper and you will see some spotty behavior and dips in it, and then another flurry around Thanksgiving and then it will be mostly done.

Now the extra thing to consider is the migration and how that plays with this.   Its not black and white.  Luck helps too.

I would always rather be lucky than good anyway! But being good helps increase the luck factor. Thanks for your input.

Wish we could hunt the whole season, unfortunately we have these things called wives and work. They really get in the way of hunting season and special permits.
