Buck of lifetime (Idaho)
« on: October 17, 2014, 01:16:27 PM »
I have been meaning to share this for some time, but just haven't had the opportunity until now.

I found out I drew this Idaho tag in a redraw less then 2 weeks before the hunt started. I had never hunted this unit before but luckily I had some good friends give me some pointers on the area.

I knew this tag had the potential for a great deer so I cleared my schedule as best I could and talked my buddies Zach and Dalton into coming with me.
We backpacked into the unit 7 days before season and ended up spotting this buck from about 3 miles away on our second day. We then spent 5 days glassing for him from about 2 miles out. We saw him twice before season and then again we spotted him on opening morning. After one of the hardest 3 hour stalks of my life we were able to get within within range and put him down with a single shot..

It was one of the physically hardest hunts I have ever been on, I can't say enough about how hard Zach and Dalton worked to help this dream come true!

He was gross green scored at 222 1/2" with a green net typical of 205"
I doubt I will ever able to top this deer, but lord knows I'm gonna try ;)

Ya Holg-  Zach and Dalton got the whole hunt on film, some amazing footage for sure!

Dalton is a member on here and I'm sure he will post some of his pictures from the hunt also.

Beautiful buck, Matt. Are we going to see this on the tube? When?
