Where in hancock for bear?
« on: October 17, 2014, 01:52:35 PM »
Been up a few times to the hancock area for bear. This is my first year with a pass so I'm new to the area. Is there anywhere in particular that holds more bear?   The area available to hunt up there is huge!

Me and a buddy came out of there one day, years ago, with 2 bears.  Everyone keep asking, where did you get them?  We said... Driving the roads, and glassing the clear cuts.
Not making fun of your question, it just brought back memory's of that day and everyone asking where the bears are.

What hancock land? You have 4 different areas that a person can get a permit for.

What's you're impression of it?  Do you see many people and does the key give you good access?  I was looking at their website and it looks like the key only works on the main gate.  Just wondering if the $250 is worth it.

Crowded during modern firearm, basically empty the rest of the year.  The two access points are not that central which makes for a long drive to many areas.  Wish they would open up the Kelly Rd gate.   If you burn wood the 5 cords you can take out will pay for the pass.

Thanks for the info.  Makes sense with the 5 cords, that's 10 full size pickup truck loads.  I wish we burned more wood at our house...unless I spent $1000 and upgraded to an insert then bought the $250 pass.  My wife is going to love the math on that one!
