Capitol Forest
« on: October 19, 2014, 05:19:40 PM »
Just curious if there is any other public lands near Capitol Forest. Went there for 8 days and all we saw was about 35 doe and maybe 3 spikes but couldn't get a shot off, no doe tags in our group. Not wanting honey holes or anything. I've asked around but almost all the responses were private lands.

Thanks

Also I did some off season scouting there too, but all I saw then was doe as well.

Where there are does there are bucks.  Keep at it.  When you see a doe don't sit there and look at it.  Start looking for the ones you don't see.

I wouldn't leave a place I have seen 35 does with rainy weather and rutting bucks in the near future.

They have started.  Smelled a rutty one yesterday after it had run off in the dark.  Find some does and just watch.

In my area of the CF the bucks are still grouped up. I regularly get pics of a mature 2x2 and young 2x3, 2x2 and a couple spikes together. No pics yet of big bucks cruising for does but it should only be another week.

Being that it is Capitol Forrest and close to Olympia. all of those does are not interested in bucks, only other does and the same with the bucks.  They were all transplanted from Evergreen to Capitol Forrest.   ;)

Now that was funny!

Deer hunting Capitol Forest, where if it looks like a buck, smells like a buck, walks like a buck,
good thing you don't have to check the berries to fill your tag.

The guy who's been hunting for four years and only seen 2 does would love to be able to see 35 in eight days. I'd stick to what you know for now if I were you

The switch was flipped the other day in my area.
The camera shows that the bucks are not together anymore and the largest doe now has a follower. The bucks have always been nocturnal since late August but the 2x3 was following the does into a cut 1.5 hours before dark last night.
