hunting with my 5 year old
« on: October 21, 2014, 09:01:07 AM »
My 5 year old and I are headed out Saturday morning to the pack forest. I am air force and am super busy with work so I haven't done any scouting other than looking at Google Earth and I'm trying to find out from someone who is up there quite a bit how steep it is on the alder cutoff Rd side if I went in there and worked back toward 7. Any advice on if I should even take the little guy up there is appreciated thanks in advance.

I'm having a similar conversation with my wife about our 6 year old.  From my perspective, it is old enough for the right hunt.  The right hunt being a non pumpkin patch road shootout on opening morning where I have time to make sure he is where he needs to be when the shot goes off.

My 6yr old is coming out with me on Friday for the first time now I have been to the area several times alone and found spots that are suitable. I'm not sure who is more excited.

Pack forest should be good as it is not really steep. Lots and lots of walking can be done in there. Not sure about people and the pumpkin patch model? Good luck!

Thanks everyone I think we will head out and try to find somewhere to hold tight and see if a legal buck happens to mosey on by... trying to teach him that hunting isn't all about killing and shooting and it's hard cuz he thinks fishing is all about a limit every time.
