Really no fun in owning just one,I have SQUIRREL syndrome, .204,(2) .223's(bolt and AR) .243,.270,7MM Rem Mag.I got lucky enough in 93 to draw a Goat tag, used the 7MM on him.Honestly it wasn't enough gun(3 shots in the boilerhouse and he still ran all over the backcountry  and turned into a JUMPER!),If I were to do it again(Which will never happen because I found it impossible to cook with any method) The minimum Caliber would be .338 win mag and the shot would be a blow both shoulders out.

25-06.....never drew the sheep/mountain goat tag (but would use it for both) and ended up shooting my moose with a 338 but i've never seen any animal die quicker than shot with this round.  daughter in law shot a blacktail buck this morning (her first deer) with the wife's 26-06 loaded with 115 gr nosler partitions--her first deer after a full 2 hours of hunting...she shot it back behind the diaphram (basically in the guts) and it flopped over dead within 6 seconds.  I've never seen an animal die quicker than when shot with a 26-06.  this buck was the only one i've seen move forward after shot with this round....

There have been many a one rifle man that has shot all of the above with a 30-06 and doing it for well over 100 years.
If liberals knew what they were missing, they’d give up drugs, sex and rock-n-roll for shooting and hunting. But then the rest of us would never draw an elk tag, so to hell with 'em! — James "Mitch" Vilos aka (Pancho Vilos)

Just wondering if you could only pick one rifle for bear, elk, moose, mountain goat, bighorn sheep, small game what would you pick? My personal preference is the 30-06 shooting the .165 grain Hornady Superformance. Can you say LIGHTS OUT. What's your favorite?

.165 grain, what is the velocity with that?  .875X the speed of light?   :chuckle:

I love my 30-06 with 165 grain bullets though.     Not sure I would use it for "small" game though.

You might still get some 55 grain bullets (accelerators) for the 06 making it a small game gun.

I sure do like my .25/06.

I've always been a fan of .25s though.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

We played with those back in the 80's (70's?) when they came out, they really blow stuff up, there might be an eyeball or an ear left of a squirrel.   :chuckle:
