What part of Kansas were you hunting?  I was stationed there for 3 years and hunted the fall river area in southeast Kansas, the deer hunting there was awesome.

Great deer (esp. yours) and a fantastic family outing. Congrats.

FISHBOY,

I was hunting at Fall River, my Dad has been hunting there for at least 30 years.  I love that area.  I don't get to go back and hunt with them as much as I would like.  our hunting camp is up to about 20 people and at least 3 generations of hunters.  We used to camp where the two rivers come together but that is gone due to flooding so we camp up on the lake at whitehall bay.  and hunt all over the place.  we spread out pretty good with everyone finding there own stands but the new guys always get help and are taken care of.  a great group of guys to hunt with

Great buck. I have 5 points in Kansas. I just need to find the time to go. Haven't decided if I'm going guided or DIY yet. Definatly archery during the rut though. You're pretty lucky to have the contacts that you do.

its not so much contacts as family and that I grew up there till I joined the navy.  all the deer we shot were shot on public land.  I have seen a ton of deer there on the public land.  kansas doesn't have as near as much as public land as here but it is well marked and any farmable land is farmed but the farmers have to leave 1/3 of the crop standing in the field.  makes for fat tasty deer.

I would agree, less public land, but more deer.  Gotta love hunting in hardwoods and along grain fields on public land, its hard to find that here unless your on private land.
