Buck w/ orange vest??
« on: October 27, 2014, 06:11:16 PM »
My friend said he saw a little spike buck with an orange vest around it's neck today while hunting.  Someone must be feeding it and didn't want it to get harvested.  I had to chuckle at that one.

Anyone else ever witnessed something like this?

How the BEEP did they get the orange vest on him?

Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Many years ago while living in Reno Nevada, a friend and myself went up a couple months before deer season to Elko to talk to two different land owners and get permission to hunt and cross their private land. After a couple bottles of whiskey changed hands we got the  permission's provided that when we came back to hunt we stopped at the two houses and let them know we were there, and how long we would be staying, and to find out what gates to keep closed, and what ones to keep open. Stopped at the first house and everything went as planned. Stopped at the second house and that's when the surprise came. While talking to the owner in her living room along comes this 5x5 mule deer walking down her hall, and climbing up on the sofa and laying down just like it was the family dog. This thing had to be at least a 26" spread. She told us that it had been their pet ever since they found it out in the field many years ago, and that during deer season they brought it into the house to keep it safe.

A few years ago, in the Almira area. A family painted with florescent paint a bulls-eye on a mulie doe. All in hopes of saving her from someone with a doe tag. Always hope she made it...... Yes I know, a bulls eye, would not be my first choice. But I was not the painting coordinator.

I used to see a buck standing on the Coweeman right below Elk Meadows, it would have orange survey tape in it's antlers each deer season. Seems it was a comunity pet amung the cabins there, and they didn't want it shot. I would think the orange tape would be more likely to get it shot if it ever crossed the river.

My son saw a buck this weekend with horns cut off and orange spray paint all over him. This is in a little development with a ton of friendly deer. Pretty sure this would be illegal.

Hey that's a great idea...I'll put up a tree stand and wait for a buck to walk under it and throw an orange vest on him so he will be easier to find come fall  :chuckle:

Years ago there was a bull in Adna they called '*censored*'. He would hang out with the black angus cow herd and even follow them into the barn. Every season there were guards posted at each end of the road to make sure nobody shot him but at about 3 1/2 years old (5x5) somebody came over the back side of the hill and dropped him. He was flagged with orange tape also.

My aunt down in adel Oregon did the same thing to a mule deer buck, it would even hang around on the porch all year, disappear around modern season and then come back by the end. Made it 4 years! Someone dropped him just off the property.

That is awesome....illegal or not it is freaking awesome and hilarious and I wanna do that when I am about 80-90 have a darn trophy buck sleep on my sofa.  Become the crazy deer lady :chuckle:
