Saw 20 deer in 2 hours on the 23rd.  Went back to the same area/s Saturday and saw 4 deer all day.  Did i miss the rut, or???

Stormy both days

* I typically hunt Muley's in the Omak area but didn't tag out this year.  Been out in the Hancock tons the past year as it's about 15 minutes from both home and work so instead of having tag soup I'm giving it a try on evenings and weekends as available.  To be fair I have yet to see a pair of horns in the year I've been going out there.

This is also the first time I've ever attempted to hunt Blacktails.  I figured the rut would be on and they would be hearding up but that's definitely not the case.

Keep going, they're there. I've seen more than one truck bed with antlers hanging out.

Get off the roads and walk clear cuts, glass and so on. The further off the road you are, the better.

No, they don't herd up. It's a one on one deal generally.

Sounds like a typical couple days on the Snoqualmie Tree Farm.  :chuckle: There's a lot of deer up there. Some days you see a ton, others you think they've all died.

Welcome to Blacktail hunting. That is the nature of the beast. I saw 12 does Saturday all before 10am. Sunday I saw 1 by 11am. Talked to guys that saw 60 plus deer on Wednesday and only 7 on Saturday. Weather is your best friend and your worst enemy when it comes to hunting Blacktail. Keep at it. It will only get better as this week goes on.

I was out there yesterday. Saw plenty of buck poop, rubs, lots of trails, sign everywhere.

No.deer.

Course it was sunny the entire day.

That and trucks just drive up and down and up and down...

Thanks for the info everyone.  These blackies are definitely a different breed :bash:!  I hope to be out there Thursday and Friday, work permitting of course.
