Vail tree farm bears?
« on: October 27, 2014, 11:21:44 PM »
I have an access pass and have spent quite a few days all over the tree farm. I've been doing a lot of glassing and looking all over in likely areas. I've been high and low, and seen every other animal over and over.  Why am I not seeing any bear to speak of....I've seen two, one sow and another just sitting on his butt looking at me from about a mile away. Where should I be looking?  Any pointers, heading out again tomorrow.  Thanks

The bear population in Vail is very thin, consider yourself lucky they are like ghost.

I think Weyerhaeuser takes quite a few bears out of there every year with depredation permits.

I was talking to a friend of mine that just retired from Weyerhaeuser. He said he was surprised there are any bears left in there with how many are killed by the guys hired by Weyerhaeuser. He said the freezer is always full of bears.

We saw several areas with bear crap and one set of tracks in early October not too far from the main gate.
