Gasman built one of these and i know a few other people who have as well. Its all basic tools, just time and woodworking, and some glass.

The lower you get in the water the closer you get to be hunting in a "sink box." Sink boxes are illegal for migratory bird hunting under federal law.

Think layout blind that sits underwater except for the shooting opening.

The law states it is unlawful to hunt "from or by means, aid, or use of a sinkbox or any other type of low floating device having a depression affording the hunter a means of concealment beneath the surface of the water"

Problem is at what point are you being concealed under the surface? Is it your entire body? Half of your body? Problem is there is no answer and it leaves it up to officer/prosecutor/judge interpretation.

Think field pit blind on the water instead of layout blind.

Check out duckboats.net and Devlin boats.  Duckboats.net has an old page called "readers rigs" that has a lot of pictures and good ideas.  There are even some local guys on there.

Just looked at the hybrid.  It is similar to the Kara boats and I have one of those in Tacoma if you'd like to see it.
It is not even close to a sink box.  A sink box gets you below the surface.  A Kara or a hybrid won't get even1/3 of your body under the water line.
