AKBowman's 14' Blacktail season
« on: October 29, 2014, 01:19:15 PM »
Been in the stand 4 days now. Monday had a really nice 3 point with eye guards come in to doe bleats. Stood at 25 yards for better part of 10 minutes and I came to full draw but he somehow found the one tiny spot I didn't feel comfortable shooting him. The he turned 90 from the trail and straight away from me and walked into the thick stuff.

The first pic is the pic of the buck I could have shot Monday (about the same size as the deer I killed last year) and the last pics are of the bigger dominant buck that has been hitting the rub. My stand is about 25 yards straight uphill of the rub.

Here's the bigger buck. Is be happy with either one. Over 3.5 miles behind a gat and a half mile from the road through timber and these bucks still don't want to come out in the open timber.

My guess is the buck in the first pic was nervous of the bigger buck in the area so he wasn't too aggressive in trying to find the doe that he was looking for.

Back at it this afternoon. Last 4 seasons I have killed 3 BT and averaged 17.5 hours in stand between shot opps. When the buck came in Monday I had around 13 hours so I am getting a little better about picking my timing and locations. I'll have pics of the first buck standing in front of my camera while I am in the tree when I retrieve the card tonight.

Will keep you guys posted, need to get it done today or Friday!!!

Good luck, hope one of them shows up for you. Are you hunting King County in a firearm restricted? Just curious, cool if you are.

Wow!  Some great bucks there.  What is sticking out of the first bucks leg?  Wonder if some bowhunter is dying after hitting a buck in the hind leg and losing him :dunno:  Better tag him so I can satisfy my curiosity :chuckle:

Now when do we get to see the 14 foot blacktail?  That is a buck I want to see! ;)
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Here is a picture of the buck at the rub while I was up in the stand. Instead of taking one more step forward he decided to take a right, 90 degress from the trail and head back into the thick stuff.

Hunted it tonight and had a doe come out of the thick bottom and work directly under my stand. It was fun to watch her but I could not beleive she didnt have a buck in tow!

He's a nice deer I would have been really happy with him but I wasnt willing to risk the shot through the small cedar bow that was blocking my shot.

Another pic of the dominant buck in the area. He's a good one. He shows up when I'm not there. I hunted Sunday, Monday and Wednesday and he was there Friday, Saturday and Tuesday.  :bash:

Was out all day in the pouring rain dark to dark.

Swirling wind is what saved him today. Something big busted around 2pm as the wind swirled and gave me away.

Season continues to late modern. Guess I'm getting the most out of my Multi season permit.

Same result for me. Got soaking wet, and could have shot a 2 point 20yards from me, but would have defeated the purpose of buying my multi tag. Can't wait for the 26th. Good luck AK.

Thanks Turner. Good luck to you too! I'm heading to WI from the 7-14th hoping to connect on a WT. Should be easy compared to hunting these damn Blackies!

Convincing the wife to let me sneak off for Sunday of late buck after being gone all week hunting in WI may take a minor miracle!!
