Powder Question
« on: November 06, 2014, 10:05:37 AM »
Quick question about Rifle powder for .300 Winmag and 30-06 about how many rounds can a guy get out of one pound of powder? Obviously it will take more powder for the .300 but just looking into reloading and not sure about a few things.

Also I pretty much just shoot Federal Premium Nosler Partition right now can I get a recommended powder that is similar to what they load with?

Thanks

I think with the various load variations and powder types thats an impossible question to answer. 3000 7000  :chuckle: grains in a lb right....so look at your average loads, do the division, leave some room for mistakes or whoopsies and go from there.

1lb. = 7,000 grains.  So just divide by the load you're using.  Somewhere between 150-200 loaded rifle rounds most likely...

It'll partly depend on what bullet/s and what powder you use but I wouldn't expect to get much more than 125rnds out of a lb for the 30-06 and 100rnds per lb for the 300 win. mag.

Powders with a faster burn rate will take less grains per round but for the most part you'll be right around 55 grains per round in a 30-06 and 70 grains per round in 300 Win mag.

Cool thanks guys that is what I am looking for knew I could get quite a few rounds per pound but did not even know a ball park figure. I know there are plenty of bullets to choose from, but I have used Partitions for a looooong time and really like them mostly because I know how they will perform every time.

Right on thanks, yeah I was shooting 180's in both my .300 and 30-06 but switched to 165's in the -06 (Partitions). Was trying to figure price for a box of reloads compared to factory but did not know approximate rounds per pound of powder.

I think you will be happy with the 165's as far as accuracy goes, every (3) -06 I have shot them out of loves the same load, 56.5 gr (use at your own risk, blah, blah, blah    :chuckle: ).
