Watch YouTube for some simple mods that you can do yourself.   Definitely need a lighter trigger, extended magazine release and auto bolt release so that you just have to pull it back and release it for it to chamber a round from a fresh magazine.  My son and I both made the lighter trigger and auto bolt release ourselves.

The trigger would be my 1st must-do.
Tactical Solutions extended mag release is very convenient, recoil buffer, and the bolt release is cool too.
After all that I put a Tactical Solutions .920 barrel and a Hogue overmolded stock on it. I love the thing. So much fun to shoot. I just upgraded scopes from a cheap-o Bushnell to a nicer Nikon scope so back to site it in  one of these days.

The sights suck, basically useless for my eyes anyway.  Scope, red dot, peep, etc. is a must, otherwise it’s just fine out of the box.  But mod away - mods are fun.

A good trigger was my first mod. I went with a Volquartsen and its extremely nice. The Sky's the limit when it comes to 10/22 mods. The only stock Ruger hardware left on mine is the action. And its been modified. You can go well north of $1000 ( ask me how I know  :chuckle:). Church out Rimfirecentral.com for ideas.

My 10-22 is all aftermarket parts--Tactical Innovations action, Boyds stock, E.R. Shaw barrel, bolt buffer, Scope off of one of my other guns (Nikon scope)  The only thing that says "Ruger" is the magazine... You can get anything for a 10-22.  Mine cost about $400.00 when it was all over, but I didn't have any spare parts to get rid of!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

 First 10/22!

For most folks just wanting a decent 22 for plinking and whacking the occasional critter not much needs to be done.

The auto bolt release, buffer and a quality Picatinny Rail Scope Base  (ditch the cheap Ruger scope base), rings and a scope would make a good foundation. If you have a barrel band - remove it- None with barrel bands are as accurate as with out.

Then decide how far you want to go with this 'project' and what its intended uses are.

By the time you are done spiffing it up the mag may be only original part left.
Enjoy the journey its a good time. There is no end to the accessories- hinges on what you want to do with it. And funding..

If you are still interested in replacing parts..the first things I replace/fix-

Auto Bolt Release
Extractor
Firing Pin
Bolt Handle, Guide Rod & Spring Kit
Bolt Buffer
Trigger Job (or a KIDD Two Stage Trigger)
KIDD Magazine Release Levers (have several different kinds of releases)
KIDD Scope Base Picatinny Rail

We have one with a Nodak spud rear sight w/integral scope rail and front sight on it.
http://www.nodakspud.com/NDS-22.htm

Others with Tech sights http://www.tech-sights.com/

Barrels, stocks and scopes open up another can of worms.

For accuracy with Ruger factory stocks-
If it has wood furniture and you want accuracy, the receiver screw torque will get you there.
Grab a box of CCI Standard, 36gr. hollow points, 40gr. mini mags or the best ammo you can find. (No bulk ammo and especially not remington gold)
Loosen the receiver screw, butt to the ground thump to 'set' the receiver/barrel.
Sand bagged off a bench at 50 yards - Slightly over tighten the screw till your groups string vertically.
Then back the screw off one slot width at a time and the groups should drop into one bug hole.
Synthetic stocks that I have sighted in seem to take less messing around than wood stocks.

In no specific order here a few sites to check out-

Prefer KIDD over Volquartsen for the customer service BTW..

It's a good accurate barrel, but for some reason I had to slightly shim the scope rings to get it to not hit low at 80 yards.  I think when I tightened the barrel lug, it pulled the barrel down slightly.  Once sighted in, it's a tack driver!

.  Good to know there accurate for the price. Been thinking about getting one but can't find much out there for reviews.
