Deer hunting Lake Roosevelt

Has anyone ever tried hunting deer on public property along the shoreline of Lake Roosevelt?  I'm thinking of using my boat to access the shoreline of the lake, and of course I wouldn't consider shooting from my vessel while it is under power. 

I'd sure appreciate any suggestions or experiences from anyone who has given it a shot.

You may want to check some maps, although the shoreline may be public use, it may be a very narrow public easement.

It is indeed often very narrow and often very steep.  I tried it a few years ago and ended up shooting my doe on some nearby DNR land.  We never saw a deer on the public land along the lake.  You are also not allowed to hunt within 1/4 or 1/2 mile of developed sites like campgrounds.  I can't remember the exact distance.

Pretty sure the tribe maintains the use of that body of water. Might want to check with them. I know once when we didn't have a portable chitter a couple years ago when camped on the whiteman side of the lake, they wanted to write us a ticket. Probably not a issue, but just a thought.

Tribe has nothing to say about hunting the public land along Lake Roosevelt on the non-tribal side of the river/lake--  Check your maps to be sure where you are..

I'm aware of that, but i can assure you that if you're hunting via a boat on LR, they can and will question you.

The public land (National Park Service) is a pretty small sliver of land, especially on the south end of the lake (Lincoln County). There are some DNR lands that border the NPS lands that can provide some opportunity that people aren't able to drive/walk into.

Hopefully you have a cat tag as we saw lots of sign when we were there, including a female with three cubs (though she was on private land nearby).

I'm aware of that, but i can assure you that if you're hunting via a boat on LR, they can and will question you.

Pretty hard to question me when I'm not stopping for them.....     Exactly what jurisdiction would the tribe have if I am in a boat, not on the "tribal" side fo the lake?

BigTex, answer this please: The tribe can check you in your boat and on shore of Lincoln County if you access it via a boat, correct? Don't they have jurisdiction of that whole body of water and the whiteman shoreline if accessing it via boat? I realize they have no enforcement or say of you hunting on the whiteman side. Also, can you shoot from a non-moving boat on LR like you can on the stretch below the dam? Thanks.

Been on Lake Roosevelt for 20+ years (countless hours in a boat ) and have NEVER seen a tribal enforcement boat on the lake

Take it easy gentlemen. I am gonna speculate that the OP did not start this thread to watch you guys argue.

This has potential to be an epic trip. Deer hunt, and throw lures for multiple species of game fish. Sounds like fun if the deer land access works out.
