Late Chewuch Tag
« on: November 04, 2014, 02:58:33 PM »
My son drew a late Chewuch deer tag and wondering if anyone has suggestions on good areas to concentrate our efforts. We hunt the general season in the Cub Creek drainage so we checked that out this weekend but weren't impressed with the buck we are seeing. No heavy horned mature bucks. Maybe that will change as the rut progresses? So if you have hunted this area during the November hunt or are just real familiar with the area all help will be appreciated.

We will be over most of the hunt. My little brother has the tag. If we see something that his high expectations won't shoot that we think your kid will I will pm you. Good luck. Hope he gets a big one.

Welcome to the site. Get up high and look for draws that are not accessable by road, then hike into them, you should be okay.

Rain again tomorrow, clearing on Firday, I wouldn't count on weather being a factor. Locate those draws without easy access and get in there, thats where the big ones are right now.

Yeah it doesn't look like we are going to get much help in the way of snow, so looks like we will be hunting high. Normally at this time of the year we see good quality bucks around our house but not the case so far this year. Think we will hunt up by Rogers lake and freeze out pass this weekend.

Do you have the chewuch tag or the pearrygin tag?  I thought Rogers lake was in the pearrygin unit?

He can hunt the west side of the road there with that tag.

Correct I knew that was the border of the unit but it sounded like he was going to hunt the eastside towards Rogers lake. I hope to see some pics of a masher real soon with some of these late seasons going on.

Cant wait to see pics!

On the 28th OCT the 42 road had 4-5inches snow on it, it must have warmed up and melted off. Was going to go home via 37 RD but choose not to risk it late in the day and the daughter was hungry for some chicken strips.  :chuckle:

Watched a few smaller bucks moving around this morning... Nothing close to a shooter.  Two appeared to be in rut.  Roads clear this morning, very mild weather towards Tiffany.
