Is that for real? Mathews got bought out?

A lot of rumors floating around out there.  You throw enough rumor poop against the internet and eventually a rumor or two does tend to be correct.  I expect we will know the details of which rumor is true very soon.

I've heard that rumor too.  That would be too funny to be true, wouldn't it? :chuckle:

With all the wealth development companies and investment this and that coming into the shooting sports over the past decade it's become complicated to track who, why and what.  Like the industries very own "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game :chuckle:

I heard it is some big company that has been buying up other smaller hunting companies.  i heard they bought GoldTip also.  I can't remember the name of the parent company

1 - Bushnell bought GoldTip.
2 - ATK bought Bushnell.
3 - ATK forms spinoff Vista Outdoors and splits stock.
4 - ATK (NYSE: ATK) and Orbital Sciences (NYSE:ORB) merged to form "Orbital ATK" (NYSE: OA) while Vista stands alone as Vista Outdoor, Inc. (NYSE: VSTO)
5 - Bushnell and GoldTip are now product brands of Vista Outdoors along with Bushnell golf, Federal Premium, CCI, Fusion, Speer, Estate Cartridge, Blazer, Blackhawk, Alliant Power, RCBS, Champion targets, Gunslick Pro, Outers gun-care, Weaver optics, Simmons, Millett, Tasco, Night Optics, Primos, B-Stinger, Bolle', Serengeti, CEBE, Bolle' safety, Butler Creek, Uncle Mike's, Eagle, Hoppe's 9 and Savage Arms.
6 -  Savage Arms was purchased separate from Bowtech, Diamond, Stryker, Octane, Waterdog and...wait for it... Kevin Bacon!! :chuckle:

I do know there were multiple players trying to get in on the action.  Some tried by attempting to create rumors with no foundation.  Matt personally reached out and asked them to squelch the talk.  So I think most of what guys are hearing is hogwash spread by jealous (or overly optimistic) competition reps.  Best idea is to not believe anything until the official press release hits.  Nothing is done unless it's officially done.  Wouldn't surprise me at all if Matt walks away from even the best of deals if it doesn't feel right to him.  Nice to hold all the leverage in your life, isn't it?!

That sounds alot more like what I heard, except the Bacon part, but everything is better with Bacon so maybe he got thrown in to sweeten the pot.
Like you say it is all rumors until the press release.  None of it would matter if there was some sort of hunting we could be doing.

That was not a post eluding to anything.  Simply one of my goofy attempts to show how the industry is one big "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game.  As more and more money is made in archery the less we will see of the good old family business.  The days of the Martin's, Sheply's and Jennings all owning 100% of a business are about gone.  Sadly we have already seen the Joint Venture/Equity Partnership/Middle Market Investment Firm replace families and long standing private institutions.

It becomes less about the product and the legacy and more about the game every year.  One of the reasons I try my best to support good honest people in the industry these days and concern myself less with what bow is "hot" or "not".  The Good Ole' Boys of the industry are the exception anymore.  And pretty soon it won't take six degrees to find your Kevin Bacons' of the archery world.  I've never been a Mathews fan, but I do wish it could stay the way it is.  Even though I'm sure Matt is over due for a vacation ;)

No big dispute and arguing?  Just a single conclusion!  Are you sure you were on Archery Talk?
