Late season Skagit Blacktail down with video
« on: December 16, 2008, 09:49:34 PM »
Well its been a pretty darn week.  It started off with the birth of my second son Sawyer Bear, and him getting a clean bill of health.  Cant wait for the day I can get him out on his first bear!  Well after a few days in the hospital, and a couple good days around the house helping the wife out.  She to my surprise knowing I had my deer tag burning a hole through my pocket, said why don't you go out hunting Tuesday, without hesitation I said ok.  At first I was wondering if she was testing me like women like to do, but to my surprise she wasn't.  So Hogsniper and I hit the timber at 8:00 in the morning.  It was a frigid 13 degrees when we left the truck.  It was cold when it snowed on Sunday, so the snow was very dry and fairly quite even after 2 days, the wind was in our face also, it was just a perfect morning.  After about 20 minutes I had to shed the new predator fleece jacket that I finally got to try out this season, it sure did keep me warm.  All the track that we were cutting in the snow, was all a day or more old, really nothing within the last few hours.  As we were still hunting through the timber, I had stoped and told justin to keep his eyes peeled because the bucks this time of year will let you walk right by them if they think you havent seen them.  It was probably about 10 minutes after I just got done telling Justin that, that he says buck, I say were?  Right there, pointing in the direction of the deer, I still cant see the buck, hes says 30 yards, oh *censored* there he is.  I was looking right through the deer, didnt realize he was that close.  I nock up, get a quick range of 33 yards through the Leicas draw the fully frozen Alpine Sabre back, settle in, drop down on the deers vitals and let her fly.  I put one right through the boiler house and out the off side ponch.  The reason for that was he was quarting towards me, and I felt fully confident in the shot.  Hit the heart and a lung, he was hurtin in a bady way.  After the shot he went about 10-15 came around a tree and I took a insurance shot, after that he tipped over about 10 feet later.  He didnt travel 15 yards.  Come to find out after watching the video he is the same buck that I missed 3 weeks earlier, I hit a limb then and deflected my arrow, otherwise I would of had him in the freezer by now.  After a quick followup video and picture session, we packed him out.  Once again I got to thank Justin HOGSNIPER the official videographer man for catching it all on video, he did a great job.  Its a pretty rare occasion that a blacktail kill is taken on video, and with archery equipment to boot.  So thanks Buddy.  Hope you guys enjoy the pics and story, fiqured since this is the last tag in my pocket for the year, Id recap it all.  Absolute perfectly semmitrical heavy 2x2.  The big boy gets another year to add to his antler growth!  Enjoy  James

My True and proudest Trophy for the year
