A old mountain whitetail
« on: November 09, 2014, 05:19:25 AM »
This is a buck that has haunted me and lost sleep over since 2010. I have yet to lay eyes on the buck ever. If it wasn't for cams I'd have no idea this buck was around. I've tried everything rattling, calling , scents and feed. He runs the area I'm hunting there's several mature bucks in here till October then they all disappear and it's just dink bucks and him. Last year i started a mock scrape and he tore it up and made 3 more over 4 ft in diameter. I hung a cam again this May and checked it June 19th and had yet to appear. I have not been able to get back up there till last Friday and he showed up on June 24th and cam died shortly after, so I don't know how he finished , but his frame looks to be more massive this year and grew a extra by brow which is a first. His left ear is almost gone looks like frost bite erodes away more and more every year his right ear is almost ripped in half . Hopefully this is the year!

This is 2011-2013 of him

This is this year

Looks like a grisly old mountain warrior.

Thanks for sharing.  Maybe he'll slip up this year.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

That would be something else if you could take him. Especially with the history of you and all your cam pics that would be an awesome experience.

The closeup of him in the snow is about as pretty a picture of a whitetail buck as I've ever seen!  Good luck- maybe this is your year!

that country up there has got to have so many monsters that die of old age.... ugh!!! I'll bet there are a few that are smart enough to not even come near the cams because of the trace of human scent that may be around there...

Keep After him and thank you for posting those pics!!

I bet most of the bucks that make it to 5 yrs old up there do not die from the hands of humans either age, winter or predators.I look at the massive roadless country I hunt and wonder whats in them, rarely does anyone ever step foot into it, there are no openings for miles just solid timber.  We have serveral bucks that I have kept tabs on for years that were over 8 yrs old.

same spot this buck has always been a 4x4 for 5 years ans stays about the same size, he might be the same age as the one I am after. His body come fall is enormous, I had named him heffer buck :chuckle:

cool nice buck
