last years bucks from oregon
« on: November 09, 2014, 09:15:59 AM »
These are our bucks from oregon last year. We had trail cam pics of these guys all summer and ended up getting them both from the same stand/blind 5 days apart. They are not "monsters" but decent blacktails for sure. My buck was a solid 3x3 prior to losing his 2nds... Ambers buck is a decent 4x4.. he scored 119 7/8.    My buck was shot from 6 yrds.. Ambers was 8-10.

No worries, I'm going to need images like that floating in the back of my mind to keep me in my tree stand four days next week, with rain coming down just below snow level.

We had a good, well decent elk season... Amber and my other buddy killed bulls on the 2nd day in WA.... about 40 min apart.. in the same drainage... that was pretty cool.. then I had 4 chances and missed a big 5x5... my first miss with my bow on a elk.... snuck in on him and a 4x4 in a cut fighting.... I had him on the wall before I drew back... just rushed the shot.. still can not believe it... then I shot a bull in oregon 5 days later... buddy called in a huge 300+ in 7x7 to 8 yrds for amber in some super thick stuff... she never could get a shot... so we killed 2 bulls and should of had at least 1 more...  I am after my oregon/WA DEER tags this late season and my WA cow elk hunt.

Thanks, I dont have much faith for this season.. I have not scouted as much as only have 1 stand up... I have been my own boss for 10 years and I took a job recently, so this will be the first year I will not get to hunt all of late season.... I am hoping to find some nice bucks.. but it might be a doe year.

Faith is all I have. I have only two "personal" days I can take and I use them for late buck. I'm hunting a tree farm where most bedding and travel routes are in thickets and reprod, with no place to hang a stand. Areas with mature timber have little sign, but I found a drainage leading up to a saddle which has great habitat on both sides. I calculated bucks should cruise through during the rut, and last year (when I got called in to work on a Saturday), a decent 2-point came through during shooting hours. I'm probably moving on next year, but hunting 30 minutes from home is convenient when I only have weekends and a few nights.
